Love is a pretty weird thing. It makes people stupid and often renders them in a state of utter confusion. In today's story, we shall see a lovestruck girl named Jess, who happens to follow her crush, Zach Herron, around wherever he goes like a lost puppy.
Let me bring you up to speed. Jess is your typical awkward nerd, with big glasses and braces. No, she's not the bratty nerd who thinks she's "not like other girls". She's actually really sweet and an amazing person. Yes, she has flaws, for example, she's totally in love with a guy who never saw her that way. Like ever. He didn't even see her.
But our sweet Jess was love-struck... she really wanted to be with Zach. Now I know what you're thinking, has Jess tried to be friends with Zach first before literally asking him to be her boyfriend? Oh my gosh, yes. Jess has done literally everything to try and be friends with Zach. Coming to the locker room to say congrats after he won a football game (or trying to console him after he lost one), making brownies for the bake sale his mom was organizing at their high school, even trying to visit him when she heard he was sick. Jess really did try, but after all of that didn't work out, she decided to do something really stupid she regretted after a few weeks. Scratch that, she regretted it after a few hours.
*flashback*
"Hi, Zach!" Jess said as she went up to the brunette who was putting back some books into his locker. "What now Jessica?""Could I be your assistant?"
What the fuck?! was the first thought in Zach's mind. What did she mean?
"Like I could do your schoolwork for you, or help you out with whatever... maybe we can even be friends?" she said and smiled shyly.
Zach looked pensive: he wanted to think this through. That's when he decided, it's his first year in high school and he's already barely passing. This was an opportunity, so he took it. He opened his locker and took out a few books and threw them at Jess's face.
"I need my history essay done by tomorrow and my math homework too. And don't get too excited about us being friends. I don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon."
Obviously, Jess was hurt with the way Zach was so blunt and cold with her, but she knew that this was her only chance. She really needed this one thing to happen. So she took this chance too.
That was about seven months ago. Those seven months went great for Zach... he was acing all his assignments and doing good on his tests too! But Jess was insanely overworked. Which makes sense when you think of it, cause she was doing work and studying for not one but two high schoolers. That's a shit ton of assignments and stress.
Jess soon regretted her decision, but she held on to it... this was the 'closest' she got to Zach since like middle school. She couldn't let this chance go. But her best and only friend Cece wasn't tolerating this bullshit.
"For heavens sake Jess! This is way too much work to do... Zach isn't worth it!" Cece exclaimed for like the umpteenth time since this whole assistant shit started. She was pissed. Let me break down their friendship for you. Jess was sweet and didn't like getting into fights. She had no patience for drama and just preferred to stay as far away from it as possible. Cece was fiery and she had no filter— she always said her mind even when she knew she wasn't supposed to share her opinion. So clearly Cece was pissed and Jess had to constantly stop her from completely lunging at Zach and ripping his 'luscious locks' (as Jess put it) off his head.
Was Zach completely abusing this chance of Jess being his assistant? Yes. Did Jess know this? Definitely. She ain't a dumb bitch. But was Jess letting this happen at the pretext of being able to at least talk to Zach? Hell yeah.
