Eventually, I managed to meet up with Kai, where we both exchanged smiles the moment we made eye contact. "Hey Kai."
"Bonjour, Haru," he grinned. "Sorry for leaving you like that," he said, gradually forming into his signature awkward smile.
"No worries," I smiled, causing reassurance. "Good with continuing your story?" I asked.
"Sure! But uh...where was I?"
"You told me you were your parents' obstacle from leaving," I reminded him.
"Oh yeah! Thanks!" he smiled. "Before my parents had the chance to leave, they discovered my mom was pregnant with me inside!" he laughed. "They felt nervous about it at first, but then they thought that if I was to join them, it could bring us closer as a family. Sure enough, after being born in Japan and waiting for me until I was three years old, we set sail around the world, living the dream!" he smiled.
"That all sounds pretty cool! And your parents sound thoughtful about it," I smiled, feeling slightly envious about his family.
"After every few months, I did everything I could to learn the language of the country we were residing in, though mainly so I could make my folks happy. But after a couple of years of doing it, I just felt...hooked into learning a new language! Not just today's spoken languages, but ancient ones, such as Mayan, Egyptian, and so much more!" he exclaimed, possibly getting too excited about this. I know it's too much as he's grabbing my shoulders, yelling this at me.
It took a few seconds for him to realize what he's doing, letting me go as he backed away. "My bad, I usually bore Ed with this stuff as we knew each other for a while. It felt...refreshing, telling that story," he smiled.
"I bet," I responded.
"I...I hope to be one of those teachers that's all about that stuff, where I end up sharing to people with what I've experienced, hopefully to make them more curious about the world, and not to mention teaching them a language they never spoke before..." he softly smiled. "While traveling, I honestly felt like the king of the world, going country to country, learning not just the languages but also other cultures, their history...it was awesome...but now...we're all the way down here in the ocean...and I don't know if my folks are alright..." he said, slowly shifting his head down in a state of sadness.
"K-Kai?" I called out to him, slowly reaching my hand to console him until he jumped up with a smile. "B-but it's alright, no need to worry about me," he nervously stated. "I was supposed to tell you a fun story, and didn't expect it to turn into a sob one, my bad."
"I-it's alright...are you-"
"I'm alright!" he smiled...though why do I feel like it's forced? "We can chat later, no worries!" he exclaimed, already walking away.
"Wait, Kai, are you-?"
"Ciao!" he waved, running along until he was out of sight...meanwhile, I took a deep breath and headed back to my room, worried I made him upset...

Haru Notes: It was rather exciting, learning about Kai's fascination with different languages, didn't expect his interest in other cultures as well. He must be grateful to have such awesome parents...though I'm worried that he feels miserable, being trapped down here and not knowing how his parents are doing, as well as forcing himself to smile as if nothing's wrong...I hope I can do something to cheer him up next time...
