As I was about to look for Kai, fate was on my side as I saw him about to leave his dorm. "Kai! Perfect timing!" I said as I held the Ancient Codex behind my back. This thing almost looks like a compass mixed with one of those turn dials, just more...complicated...I honestly think my brain would explode if I attempted to use this, but if Kai's capable to use it as the Ultimate Linguist, then hopefully he'll like it.

"Hey Haru, zěnme yàngle?" he asked, leaving me looking at him like an idiot as I didn't know what he said.   He took notice of my confusion and said "I said what's up," with an awkward smile.

"Oh, nothing really, was wondering if I could give you something?" I answered.

"Oh? What kind of something?" he asked. I took out the Ancient Codex into view, and his eyes widened the moment they lied at the device. Before I could say anything, he suddenly took it from my hands, admiring the design. "Madre de Dios! I thought this thing was a myth!"

"A myth?" I asked, happy yet confused by his excitement.

"A mechanical codex, capable of translating from languages from the past to languages to the present day! Sure, I have every language I came across memorized by heart, but I'd love to use this thing to test myself every now and then, like a puzzle!" he smiled. "Not to mention that these things are so rare, they're practically a collector's item! And with all of these rust marks, it could cost up to the millions!"

"M-millions?" I felt stunned at the possible cost.

"But...despite how tempting it is to sell it, I'll keep it.  Danke vielmals!" he smiled. I don't know the language, but I think I understand well enough to know he said thanks, making me smile.

Personally, I wouldn't care at all if he chose to sell it or not, but the fact he's choosing to keep such a gift must mean how much he values getting it from me, or at least how I think. "If you don't mind, fine if I ask you something?"

"Sure, ask away," he smiled, gently placing the codex in his pocket.

"Why do you keep slipping in words in different languages during a conversation?" I asked as politely as I could.

"Heh, just a slight habit of mine," he responded, holding the back of his neck while giving an awkward smile. "Kinda bound to happen when you're raised on a boat, traveling one country to the next every few months."

"Every few months you travel to a different country?  Your family must be rich or something to afford all of that," I accidentally blurted out, forcing my hands to my mouth as I stare at Kai. "S-sorry, that came out..."

However, Kai just laughed at me and said "No worries. You're not the first person to assume that, and you'd be right!"

"Really?  Are you and your parents some sort of nobility?"

"Not really, more like my parents won a lottery so big, it was enough to quit their jobs, buy themselves a boat, and just sail across the globe, having one hell of a vacation. However, there was a slight obstacle they had before starting their adventure," he smiled.

"What obstacle?"

"Me! After winning the lotto they...well, I'll spare a few details, but they-," Kai got interrupted as he takes a look at his e-Handbook. "Oh mierda! Sorry Haru, but I gotta go take care of something! Cool if we finish chatting later?" he asked.

"Sure, go take care of whatever you need to do," I responded with a smile.

"Graci! Take care!" he waved and left.

Heh, I never would've thought of Kai as a rich boy... I thought to myself.  Now I'm excited to learn more about his story.

Haru Notes:  I felt happy to see Kai's eyes spark up when I handed him the Ancient Codex, though I kinda assumed Kai as a slight dork, with his green-dyed hair matching the color of his shirt, how he slips a word in a conversation that's a different language, and the fact he's simping for Yui.  However, After learning more about him I'm actually interested in getting to know him more.  Guess you can't judge a book by its cover, huh?
