"Ok-so what you're saying is that there was an earthquake, the boy got knocked out and you healed him?" Ms. John smiled, obviously trying not to laugh.

"Yes! That's exactly what happened!"

"Ok, well then let's check," she turned on the computer.

"WAIT! You don't have to!" I just stopped her.

Ms. John glanced up at me, "What? Why? You don't have any solid proof do you?"

"Um, well..." I didn't have an answer. I was telling the truth, obviously. I've already explained what happened. But I couldn't rat Violet out. She'd hate me. I tried to imagine the type of punishment that Violet would have if someone found out. Well, if she even was punished. I'd never really thought about that.

Ms. John just starred at me, waiting for my answer. "Well?"

"Um, you see, I-"

"Hello Ms. John!"

I spun around, only to see Alice skipping into the room. I had no idea why she was here, but I was just thankful that she had excellent timing.

"Oh, well hello Alice! Nice to see you! It's been a while. How are you?"

She smiled at Ms. John and put her hand on my shoulder, "I'm here to get Nicole. You see, we're going to a-a-book club! That's it! We're reading-um-Harry Potter! Yes. We just LOVE fantasy books don't we Nick!"

"Um..." What? I was about to protest and say I never liked fantasy books and am not in a book club.

"Play along." I heard Alice whisper to me."

"Oh yes! Harry Potter. Um-wizards and brooms and magic. Exciting." I weakly smiled. I had never actually read Harry Potter, but I watched the first movie. That's pretty much all I know.

"That's great Nicole! Hope your doing good. What book are you on? Not quite fond of the series myself but-"

"ChamberofSecrets." Alice said extremely fast. "Anyways, let's go." Alice took my hand and pulled me out of the room and into the washroom-I found out this place was private before and after school, and nobody used it since nobody was in the area.

"Ok, sorry about that. It was the only excuse I could think of. Don't blame me if it backfires and teachers quiz you about the books."

"That's OK, but how did you know that I needed help?"

She laughed. "You admit that you needed help?"

"Well, never mind. How did you know?"

"Remember? My power." She made a basket of food appear on beside the sink. It was filled with fresh fruit, bread and cheese, "Here. Eat. You are very hungry."

I instantly dug in, biting into a ripe strawberry, "Mmmm. Delicious. Don't you want some?"

She sighed, "I can't"

I stopped eating. "What? why?"

She looked at me. She had a sad look at her eyes. Uh oh.

"It's my power. I can only use it to help others, not myself. If I try eating the food it will vanish." She tried picking up a piece of cheese from the basket. As she said, once she picked it up and brought it to her mouth, the cheese was gone. "Ever notice I always eat the food that the school makes and not use my power to get food?"

Once I thought about it, she was right. While me and all of her other friends were pigging out during meals, she was eating the limited gross cafeteria food that she had to go up and order. "So that's why?"
