Anaya

<Faiz: What are you doing?>

Well, currently I was lying on the charpai on my back in the Bird Room, trying to get some sleep. There was load shedding going on, and the revolving fan that Saleem had brought up from downstairs at my request, was currently standing still due to the lack of electricity.

<Anaya: I'm contemplating life.>

<Faiz: Wow. Sounds deep.>

It had been a week since Faiz had left, and so far there had been no issues at home. I did however, heard my parents discuss my haq-mehr once, which was ten thousand British pounds, and I had no idea why they were talking about it, but out of curiosity, I converted the amount into Pakistani rupees. At the current rate*, it was over two million rupees. Ya Allah!

*This rate applies on 06th November 2020, as per Google.

And then I realised why my parents would possibly be discussing it. That was a huge amount.

I put my phone aside, staring up into the darkness. I really hoped that what I was thinking wasn't true. I had no greed or desire for money, I just wanted to be with Faiz. But the fact is that the haq-mehr was the wife's right, and nobody was allowed to take it away from her.

They wouldn't do that to me, would they? Yes, sure, they have done things that have made me question their morals, but this would be going too far.

My phone rang and I glanced down. "Assalam Alaikum."

"Walaikum Assalam. So gayi?" Faiz's warm voice came through.

*"So gayi?": Asleep?

"Utha kar poochain ge ke main so gayi?" I laughed.

*"You'll wake me up and ask if I'm asleep?"

"You won't sleep that early anymore. You'll be too busy thinking about me." He said, cheekily.

"How do you sit in a car without bumping that big head of yours?" I asked.

"It's true though. Tell me that I'm wrong, Anaya Faiz."

"Good night, Faiz." I couldn't stop smiling.

"I got a confirmation today, that our application has been successfully submitted."

"Yeah, I got the email too." I sighed. "It's a matter of waiting now."

"You sound disappointed." He paused for a few moments. "If you want, I can come and work at a Lahore branch of the hotel."

"Are you saying that for my sake or your own?" I teased him.

He laughed. "Mostly my own. I have a very good reason to stay in Pakistan until a certain visa comes through."

We chatted away long into the night, until my eyes started to drift shut. "Sleepy... talk tomorrow." I yawned. "Allah Hafiz."

"Allah Hafiz, Anaya."

You know what I was most excited about seeing in London? Not the Big Ben or the Buckingham Palace, like other people. I was excited to see the London Underground, the trains that connected the entire London, majority of it underground, as clear by the name. I couldn't wait to behave like a typical tourist, with Faiz by my side. In Sha Allah.
