Anaya

"What are you up to?" Kiran looked excited as we video called each other.

"It's Faiz's birthday, so we're going to treat Mikael, Rida's son, with cake." I smiled at the thought of the adorable little boy.

"Aww, Happy Birthday to Faiz Bhai!" She smiled. "So, it's his birthday, but he's the one giving the treat?" An amused look covered her face.

"Kids." I laughed. "Rida said he'd been screaming about cake all morning because Faiz promised to get him some today."

"Aww, kids have a better memory than we think." She paused. "Speaking of kids...I'm pregnant."

I gasped. "Really?! Ma Sha Allah! Kiran! I'm so, so happy for you! I can't wait to be a Khalla!"

"I can't either." She winked at me. "But yeah, it's such a surreal feeling, knowing that I'm going to be a mother."

"Aww, may Allah bless you and your family. Ameen." I smiled. "I wish I could hug you right now."

"I was begging Raza to take a trip to London, and he even agreed, but he wanted the first trimester to be complete first." She rolled her eyes. "My cousins used to tell me how their husbands became overprotective, especially when they were about to be first time fathers. Now I know..."

"I swear, K, it's amazing where life takes us." I sighed. "We were two girls from Lahore, and our fate has brought us to different parts of the world. And now you're going to be a mother, Ma Sha Allah."

"It seems impossible, right? But because it was written in the stars, it was meant to happen."

"Well, I'll try and convince Faiz to bring me to Toronto to meet you soon." I said. "I miss you, and I want to catch up with you."

"I miss you too, babe. I was so disappointed that we missed meeting each other in London, but In Sha Allah, soon."

"In Sha Allah." I smiled. "Listen, I have to go. Poor Mikael must be waiting desperately for the cake. I'll catch up with you later?"

"Yeah, sure. Allah Hafiz. Take care."

"Take care, K. Allah Hafiz." I ended the call.

I was seriously, genuinely happy for Kiran, without a doubt. However, I felt...something weird. Do I want that for myself? It was seriously a strange feeling. Jealousy? No. Absolutely not. Allah has different plans for everyone, and I need to have faith in Him. I'm happy just being Anaya Faiz right now, and I only hoped for the best for Kiran.
