chapter twenty nine

"we should head out now, the suns starting to set." i say as i pause the halloween movie we're watching.

"i'll go change." iwaizumi gets up from the couch and heads to the main bathroom.

"would you like me to tag along, chinami?" tsutomu comes into the living room and near the doorway leading outside.

"no, we'll be fine. thanks, though."

he nods and goes outside. iwaizumi comes back in a joker costume, his hair sprayed green.

"oh, wow. that's not was i was expecting." mattsun looks at iwaizumi.

"do you like it?" oikawa shoots up from the couch.

"looks awesome." i get up from the couch as well and walk over to iwaizumi to get a closer look at the costume.

"thanks, chinam-" oikawa starts.

"i was complimenting iwa, not you."

oikawa dramatically clutches a fist over his chest. "ouch."

"let's get going." i say as i run my fingers through the coraline wig to straighten out the hairs. the boys nod and i grab pillowcases for them to hold their candy.

it's around 11pm now, back at my place. we went around so many streets, too many at that. a lot of it was us being told we're too old to be trick or treating, mattsun and makki scaring away little kids, and oikawa calling me coraline-chan.

"halloween was a success!" oikawa lays back on the couch with his hands behind his head.

"i can't wait for the party tomorrrow!" mattsun exclaims while putting his feet up on the long end of the couch.

"i heard it's gonna be a real hit." makki says as he unwraps a snickers bar.

"any idea what's actually gonna happen there.." i sit with my head in my hands and my elbows rested on my thighs.

"games.. a lot of games." iwaizumi says.

"games as in."

"i heard truth or dare~~" oikawa pokes my shoulder.

"apparently someone got pens, no clue how." makki says.

"pens..?" i ask in confusion.

"y'know, like," makki pretends to smoke, blowing out an imaginary cloud.

"smoking? that's bad!" oikawa exclaims with worry in his voice.

"oikawa, you're a third year. grow up." i give him an unamused look.

"but-"

"no buts. i dare you to take a hit when we go."

"ooo." mattsun clutches a fist over his mouth.

"i actually dare all of you to."

mattsun and makki look at me in shock, then shrug. iwaizumi could care less.

"then you have to do it too." makki looks at me.

"fine by me."

"my lungs are going to be destroyed, aren't they?" oikawa asks.

i'm concerned for his well being.

"hitting it once won't kill you."

"i like how chinami-chan is like.. our boss now." makki crosses his arms.

"who would've thought, a second year is braver than oikawa." mattsun also crosses his arms.

"hey!" oikawa now crosses his arms.

"who isn't braver than him?" iwaizumi adds.

"iwa-chan, stop being mean!" oikawa puts his head in his hands.

"are we riding there together or no? i have to let tomu know."

they nod. i let tsutomu know and he proceeds to drop them off at their houses for the night. i grab my pillowcase of candy and head to the kitchen, dumping the candy in a bowl and putting it in the pantry so lennon can't get into it. i head up to my room to take a shower. while doing so, i think about tomorrow's party. are they actually gonna go along with the dare? i bet oikawa will chicken out.

there's a knock on my bedroom door. "chinami-chan?" i hear oikawa- wait oikawa?!

what the fuck is he doing back here? i turn off the water and get out of the shower wrapping a towel around my body after drying off. i go out to my room and unlock the door, water dripping from my hair.

"what the hell are you still doing here." i look up to oikawa who's holding his ryota cosplay in his hands.

"i-i, uh.."

"spit it out."

"can i stay over?"

"why.."

"so you can help me with my costume!"

"hold on." i shut the door and lock it. i need some time to think about this while i get dressed. i put on spandex and an oversized shirt before opening the door again.

"what we're you saying?"

"can i stay here so you can help me with my costume tomorrow?"

"isn't the party at night.."

"yeah, but i don't wanna wait till last minute and then you might ditch me."

"we're literally going together.. how could i ditch you."

"i dunno, you're chinami-chan."

"what's that supposed to mean." i look to him with a straight face.

"you're unpredictable!"

"whatever, stay, i don't care. i'm going to sleep."

"good night, chinami-chan!"

"night." i close my door and oikawa goes down the hallway, heading to the guest rooms.

i go onto my bed and under the covers, quickly dozing off.

the next morning, i'm woken up by lennon jumping onto me.

"ah- lenny! you can't keep waking me up like this-" i scratch behind his ears before he jumps off my bed and runs out of my room.

after doing my morning routine in my bathroom, i get out of my room and go towards the stairs.

"good mor-"

i turn around before going down the stairs and slap oikawa, forgetting he was even here. "oh, my bad."

"i think that's just an excuse to slap me!" oikawa places a hand over his cheek.

"oh, come on. that wasn't even hard." i walk down the stairs, him following behind.

"uh, yes it was- harder than the first time!"

"yeah, okay." we sit down for breakfast as sayaka plates our food.

"chinami, would you like me to pick up your friends now or later?" tsutomu questions while grabbing the car keys. "i'm about to grab some stuff at the store."

"i guess now.. so you don't have to go out again until we're actually leaving." i let out a sigh.

"very well." tsutomu goes out the kitchen and to the front door.
