we stay at the observatory deck for a little before going to pick up oikawa's mother from wherever she had to go. we decide it's best we go out to dinner now, before going to times square for the ball drop.

we end up going to manhatta, a fancy restaurant in the city. the view is definitely the best part right now, even though i can only partially look out the window since we're seated in like.. the middle? i mean, i wouldn't expect less from the 60th floor.

"so, chinami," oikawa's mother starts as i'm cutting into the steak i ordered. i look up to her and nod.

"what intentions do you have with tooru?" she questions while i chew my food. oikawa looks at me and i look at him.

"well.."

"no, no, no, don't say anything!" oikawa blurts, then covers his mouth.

"tooru, don't cut her off!" oikawa's father playfully scolds him.

"sorry~" oikawa sincerely apologizes with a short laugh.

"as i was saying, tooru here came and asked me out on a limb."

"no i didn't!"

i look at him with a 'oh really?' expression on my face. oikawa sighs and crosses his arms.

"fine, i did. the guys were a really good support team, though!"

"my intentions with him.. i'm not sure. but, i did promise i wouldn't like.. leave him?"

the adults 'aww' while oikawa leans closer to me and kisses my cheek. "you're too cute~"

ewww, in front of everybody, i hate him.

as usual, my face becomes flushed as i punch oikawa on his thigh. he dramatically winces as dinner continues.

to be honest, it was pretty nice to eat together, oikawa's parents telling me so much gossip about him, and how they'd show me cute baby pictures of him when we return home.

━━━━

we leave the restaurant, heading back out into the very cold temperatures. wait, how long are we even going to be standing outside for? i mean, this jacket is keeping me warm fine, but the cold isn't much fun when you're just standing there.

we make it to times square, buildings lighting up the area. it would be nice spot for pictures if there weren't so many people. we walk through the crowd, finding a good spot to stand to watch the ball drop. it was pretty hard considering there are so many fucking people. i knew new york was popular, but this is another level!

━━━━

oikawa snuggles me closer, his arm around my shoulders. "i am so, sooo ready for this!"

i look around, looking up to the timer and sparkling ball, a few more minutes on the clock.

━━━━

the five of us and the crowd count down.

"10."

"9."

"8."

"7."

"6."

"5."

oikawa turns to me and cups my face in his hands, leaning down. "it's always gonna be us, chinami-chan."

"4."

"3."

"2."

"1."

oikawa's lips press against mine passionately as the ball drops, the sound of fireworks heard from every direction. he pulls away after a few seconds just to pull me into his arms.

"can i tell you something?" oikawa goes close to my ear so i can hear him over the noisy crowd. i nod.

"well, first, happy new year! second, you're the most amazing, bestest- that's not a word- um.. wonderful and outstanding girl i've ever met!" he places a quick kiss on my forehead.

"tooru-"

"ahh, you don't have to tell me how great of a boyfriend i am, i already know!"

i shake my head with a giggle. "you're so stupid."

"hey! it's one of my best qualities." he puts his hands on his hips.

"shut up, you idiot." i wrap my arms around his neck and bring him closer, softly kissing his lips. "you're a great boyfriend, tooru."

"i said you didn't have to tell me!" oikawa chuckles and wraps his arms around my waist, picking me up into a hug. i nuzzle my face into the crook of his neck, pure joy and butterflies filling me up.

we stay at times square for a while, the adults conversing with other.. adults about old people stuff while oikawa and i find other teenagers. we head back to the hotel, oikawa carrying me this time since he insisted. i don't mind, since we've been out for so long.

we change into another pair of matching pajamas he bought, these ones being covered in scout regiment logos, very cute.

"tonight was definitely one to remember!" oikawa says while flopping down on the bed, next to me. i turn to oikawa and crawl onto him.

"that's true, i don't know how i'll ever forget it."

"i think the new years kiss rumors are true, you're already being more affectionate!"

"oh, shut up."

oikawa snickers. "goodnight, chinami-chan~"

"goodnight, tooru."
