Actually not based off of Reinary's story of Victoria and Camille. Nora and Bethany's characters just fit this well, just with a few tweaks. Considering they never had a canon storyline anyway, I might as well give them one.
Tbh I didn't know if I should make the non-vampire character a werewolf or not but I decided against it last minute because...reasons.A creaking noise alerted Nora to someone inside her house. She lived in the middle of the forest, and her house looked abandoned from the outside, but it definitely was not.
She stood up from her desk and walked down the hall, hearing someone mutter to themselves. The scent of blood reached her nose as she made it silently to the top of the stairs, and she took a deep breath. Nora could see exactly where the human was.
The human was female, and injured. As she began to descend the flight of stairs into the entrance hall, chocolate colored eyes focused on her. Both of them were silent until she reached the bottom.
"What's a pretty thing like you doing here?" Nora asked. The scent of blood got stronger as she approached. "I got lost in the woods, and I thought the house was abandoned." The intruder replied. "It's dangerous in the woods this late." Nora said.
"I know." The human glanced down at her hand for a split second, pulling it away from her leg. She'd pressed it against her thigh in an attempt to stem the flow of blood.
Nora came closer and knelt down near the human, who stared at her suspiciously. "Vampires can track you with this, y'know." She said, reaching for the stranger's hand. She pulled her hand away, "I know." She began bandaging it with bandages she pulled from her pocket.
Now that she was close, she had to swallow to keep her mouth from watering. The scent and sight of blood was begging her to bite the woman before her. But she decided to have a little fun with her first.
Once she stood up, she offered a hand to the human to pull her up. Instead of taking it, she stood up on her own. "You best be running, then." Nora said slyly, smiling and showing off her fangs as she opened the door behind the human.
She noticed her fangs and widened her eyes, before bolting out the door. Nora simply chuckled, counting seconds in her head before she went after her. Then, she ran.
Through the woods the two of them ran; the vampire and the human - the huntress and the prey. Weaving between trees, leaping over streams, carefully making their way over the steep hills. Moonlight filtered through the canopy overhead, bathing them in light, then shadow, then light again.
Even with the headstart she granted her next meal, Nora was at an advantage for knowing the terrain better. The fear she could tell the human was feeling made her experience a feeling similar to euphoria. She loved to see the way her prey would struggle before she finally caught it. The scent of blood kept pushing her beyond her limit, even as twigs and branches scratched at her exposed skin.
The human suddenly made a sharp turn, ducking behind a rock pile. Nora knew that on the human's side, there was an opening, and the rocks made a den of sorts, big enough for about two people. She pretended not to know where the human had gone, letting her catch her breath before she would scare her and corner her inside the den.Bethany held her bandaged hand over her mouth, trying hard to keep silent. She heard the footsteps on the leaves stop abruptly, but she didn't know if the vampire had lost track of her or was waiting to ambush her.
As silent as possible, she unsheathed her knife from her sleeve. She noticed her hands were shaking as she did so. The vampire had given her more of a scare than she'd been ready for. Even if she was being careful, she hadn't expected the vampire to simply bare her fangs like that. It was odd, and she'd met plenty of the bloodthirsty creatures before. None of them had lived to tell the tale, though.
She hadn't lived as long as she did just to become food. Or without learning to fight the kind of creatures that killed her family.
"Come out, little rabbit." The vampire's silky voice called from the other side of the rocks. So she knew where Bethany was hiding. No escaping now. She thought to herself.
Taking no more than a second to prepare herself, Bethany charged from her hiding spot. "Your move, dirty human killer." She hissed, smiling as the dirty blonde vampire ran from her.
Like she knew she'd gotten, she gave the vampire a headstart. Before she'd been playing with her, now she would get serious. Only six seconds passed, and she chased her, following the sound of her footsteps crunching on the dry leaf litter.
The thought of the vampire's fear as she would soon be met by Bethany's knife made her smile to herself as she ran. She would enjoy the result of her chase as much as she would enjoy the chase.Bethany tackled the vampire to the ground, and was thrown off quickly. They faced each other. Vampire and vampire hunter. Bloodlust hung in the air between them, as real as the trees that made up the forest they were in.
"May I have this dance?" The vampire asked, shedding the cloak she wore around her shoulders and letting it drop to the ground. Bethany didn't respond. Maybe she was in the vampire's territory, and at a disadvantage due to not knowing the terrain as well, but she wouldn't be defeated.
Surprisingly, there was something about the vampire's confident stance and hazel eyes that were pulling her in. But Bethany wouldn't admit it. Her enemy was the same as every other vampire she'd slain. They attacked each other at the same time, and began to fight. Bethany's knives reflected the hidden beams of moonlight, while Nora herself seemed to draw the light in.
In their moonlit dance, they judged each other's fighting style. Bethany's was primarily offense, and Nora's was primarily defense. But neither was going to underestimate her enemy. And neither would back down.
It was as much a fight for supremacy as it was a fight to the death.
Wounds dripped scarlet blood. Bruises colored pale skin dark like stains.
And yet...Nora spoke. As they clashed, Nora spoke to Bethany in a voice dripping with a thirst for blood. "You gave me a headstart, didn't you?" That surprised the human, and gave the vampire the opening she needed to throw her to the ground. In a second, their dance was over, in what seemed like victory for the creature of the night.
Bethany had an extra knife hidden under her clothing, but she wouldn't show her hand just yet. "Even if you live to slay my kind, you humans are all the same." Nora said, moving down to sit on Bethany's stomach. All the vampire hunter did was watch, and, despite everything, a chill went down her spine as long fingernails were dragged down her wrist with a surprisingly feather-light touch.
Silently, Bethany counted the inches between them. Counted them down as Nora leaned over her body. "Not much of a talker are you? I guess it doesn't matter, as long as you're afraid." Nora murmured, drawn in by the fear radiating from her prey, and subconsciously zoning in on the veins in her neck. She liked the scent of her human...it was delicious.
"Where'd all that bravery from before go?" Nora asked. Bethany stiffened, feeling fangs brush her neck. She moved her wrist, unsheathing her extra knife from under her clothing. Nora knew it was there, and pushed away Bethany's arms, moving them away from her and effectively pinning her down. Had she hesitated too long?
"I wonder if you'll struggle like all the other's..." Nora whispered, her senses nearly consumed by her human as she dug her fangs into her neck. Bethany bit her lip and tried to keep herself from struggling. Even if she died, she wouldn't give the vampire what she wanted.
Little did she know, she already had.
Crimson beads of blood leaked from the wound, and Nora licked them off Bethany's skin, flavor exploding on her tongue. Why did it taste so much better than any other blood she'd tasted before? Bethany let out a tiny sigh in contentment. Her body went rigid from alarm. What was happening to her? First she loses, then she sighs, wanting more blood to be taken?
"It seems...you're more interesting than I thought." Nora hadn't met a human who didn't struggle to the end. They were strong, until she bit them. But...her human wasn't struggling. Instead, her human was craving more blood to leave her body.
She licked blood from the wound again, before forcing herself to pull away. The scent of her human lingered around her face. Nora wanted more. More of her human's blood, more of her human's scent, more of her human's fear. She wanted to know why her human hadn't reacted like all the others. She wanted to know why she craved her human like she did.
Bethany stared at Nora as she pulled away. The vampire's pretty hazel eyes were half-lidded, and she knew she wanted more of her blood. Why wasn't she taking it? Somehow that was more terrifying to her than the prospect of death. She nearly spoke, but couldn't find it in herself to say a word, and closed her mouth.
Without the warmth of another living body, Bethany suddenly felt cold. The vampire stood, licking her lips. As she bent down to pick up her knife, Bethany realized how relaxed her grip on her weapons had become. She tightened her grip on the hilt of the knife, but it was already gone.
"We'll meet again." Nora said, spinning the knife in her fingers and putting her cloak back on over her clothes. "I don't doubt it." Bethany replied, her voice weak as she sat up. Nora had all of her knives. But Bethany had Nora's mercy.
It was a concept neither could understand. Why didn't Nora kill Bethany?
Bethany watched as Nora disappeared into the trees. Nora felt eyes on her back as she left. What...what exactly had gone wrong?...
