Lauren looked up towards the sign in front of the small venue.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOSEPHINE
FLIGHT OF THE RED BUTTERFLIES
PERFORMING TONIGHT"That's us," said Austin as he placed his arm over Lauren's shoulders, holding on his other hand his drumsticks. The girl chuckled.
"That's us," she repeated in a whisper, smiling.
Lauren Grey at sixteen had red hair wicks, heavy eye makeup and a short black dress, with high boots.
"Are you ready?" Asked Ricky, the bassist, while Matt, the rhythm guitarist, stood next to him. The girl nodded, and the three entered the venue smiling.
It was packed. So many people waiting for them to show up. Lauren could look at them from backstage, and that made her nervous.
"Hey," her boyfriend at the time said. Lauren turned around to look at Austin giving her a tiny smile. "Don't be nervous, you are going to do great." The girl smiled. "Are your folks here?"
She shook her head. "I sneaked out. I was grounded." He laughed.
"You are going to kill me, woman." He made his drumstick spin before he walked away, getting ready to get on stage.
Lauren breathed in and then exhaled, walking towards her guitar case and taking out her red guitar, putting the strap around her shoulders and under her right arm. She was ready.
When they got out to the stage, they were received with applause. People cheered at them and that made her smile widely.
Her fingers trembled as she placed her hands on the guitar, standing in front of the microphone.
She started playing, being followed by the rest of the guys. She approached the microphone and started singing.
"You're the kind of friend who always bends when I'm broken. Like, remember when, you took my heart and put it back together again." She played a little riff on the guitar before continuing to sing. "I've been wasting time with clueless guys. But now it's over. Let me tell you why I'm through. I've got someone new, he's just like you."
Lauren smiled as she continued to sing, being joined by Matt's vocals.
"You're it. You're the ultimate. It's automatic, I'm sure of it. No lie. So don't even try, to tell me that you're not the guy. 'Cause I've been waiting all my life, for someone just like you. But you're it. You're the ultimate. You..."
She looked down to her fingers as she played the riff, being cheered by the audience.
This is what she loved. Music.
"You're the kind of guy whose hands in mine send shivers up and down my spine. You took my heart and put it back together again." She looked over to her band before she continued to sing. "You're the kind of guy that blows my mind. But now it's my turn. You've been right in front of me. Everything I need, why didn't I see?"
