An 8-year-old Kara skipped through the garden, humming a tune that her mother would always sing to her. For being the daughter of the leader of the high council on Krypton and a well known scientist, she seemed to be carrying the future of her world on her shoulders, but she could care less. All she wanted was to be happy, and for everybody else to be happy.

As she continued to make her way through the garden, looking at all of the plants that she had been learning about since she had been enrolled in school, she heard a noise coming from some of the brush she had just past.

"Hello?" she asked. No response.

"Is someone here?" she asked with fear creeping into her voice.

Before she could say or do anything else, a young boy who looked to be about her age appeared from behind the plants she was near. As he stepped into the light a young Kara could fully see him. He was just taller than her and had these blue-grey eyes that were as deep as the oceans as well as light brown hair that moved sightly with the wind.

"Sorry." he said timidly. "I didn't mean to scare you."

"It's okay." she replied, slightly confused. "What were you doing behind the plants?" she asked curiously.

"I thought I was alone when I heard you humming and singing. I didn't know if I was allowed to be here so I hid." he said still trying not to meet her eyes.

"Of course you can be here! The gardens are open to everyone!" she told the boy trying to break him out of his shell.

He nodded in response, and a silence fell among them. Kara looked to the ground for a moment before speaking up.

"What's your name?" she asked suddenly.

"Mon-El..." he said quietly.

"Well Mon-El, my name is Kara Zor-El and I'm from here- Krypton." she responded confidently.

"A Kryptonian? My mother says I'm not allowed to be friends with Kryptonians." he told the girl finally meeting her eyes.

She was confused at his statement to say the least. "Why are you here then? Are you not from Kyrpton?"

"No. I'm from Daxam. My mother and father are the king and queen, and we are here because they have a meeting with the council." he said trying to back away from her.

He had always been taught that Kryptonians were these stuck-up, obnoxious people, and that he should try and avoid them at all costs, but this girl, although he had just met her, seemed different.

"So you're the prince... That's cool! That doesn't mean we can't be friends." she said happily.

Although she was taught that Daxamites were these rude, egotistical, and party people, she didn't believe it. Even only being eight years old, she wanted to make that judgement for herself, and this boy seemed to be the opposite of what she has always been told.

"But Daxamites and Kryptonians are supposed to hate each other..." he told her.

Her smile had faltered and guilt started to creep into his chest, but before he could think too much about it she had perked back up.

"Well then, I guess we can't tell our parents that we're friends then!" she exclaimed as a smile made its way onto her face.

Mon-El smiled at her. He had never had many friends, especially friends that were as kind as Kara. Again, although he had just met her, he liked the idea of being friends with her.

Before he got the chance to say anything, Kara spoke again.

"Come on! I'll show you around the garden!" she said, grabbing his wrist as she pulled him along with her.
