she was anxious. she was seeing Mon-El for the first time since the night of the gala. she had an idea too. but she knew he wouldn't be on board.
he on the other hand was just desperate to see her. he had been since that night. he was just itching to get out of the palace to see her.
when he finally got the chance to slip away, he took it. he made his ways to the bushel of pods and cruisers that were parked on the backside of the palace, and started one up, taking off into the air.
he arrived on Krypton in a short amount of time, and landed the small cruiser in the same field he always had.
he made his way to garden where they normally met, making sure no one saw him.
once he got there he immediately spotted her and smiled. she looked as beautiful as ever. her casual baby's blue dress that went down to her ankles, her golden curls, her rosy cheeks, and her eyes that were a deep cerulean color and reminded him of comets. she's perfect. he thought to himself.
her eyes finally met his, and she smiled. they ran towards each other, and he picked her up by the waist, spinning her around as her arms circled his neck.
she laughed as he set her down, arms still settled around her waist.
"hi."
"hi. i missed you princess."
"me too... how long can you stay?" she asked quietly.
"i have until tomorrow morning. my parents are out at a party tonight, so they won't notice if i'm gone."
she nodded as a smile crept its way onto her face. she loved when he got to stay overnight. Kara would always tell her parents she would be spending the night with her friends, then they would go to a place on the outside of the city, gaze at the stars, and just be together.
-
they laid on the grass, side by side, fingers intertwined between them. Kara sighed in contentment as she looked up at the stars, seeing a shooting star go by.
he saw it too, and they both made a wish. the same wish.
"you know. one day i hope to end all the horrible things my parents do to our people." he said suddenly.
"i want people to actually feel things, so no more constantly being drugged or at parties all the time. i want them to actually live real life." he finished.
"that's amazing. but why are you telling me this now." she asked.
he turned towards her, sitting up slightly and placed his hand on her check as she sat up too.
"well, you're the one who inspired it. you've inspired me. all things i want to do as king wouldn't have even crossed my mind, had i not met you."
"well that's where you're wrong, my prince. you have such a big heart. i have no doubt you would want to do these things even if you hadn't met me."
all he could do was smile and place a chaste kiss onto her lips. she smiled into it as she pulled away and returned her head to his chest.
she hesitated before finally deciding to say what she had been wanting to tell him, hoping that he would take it the right way.
"hey Mon-El?"
"yes, princess?"
"there's something i wanted to run by you... the other night, after the gala, i was reading a book about this planet, earth, and it got me thinking..." she trailed off, frightened to tell him what came next.
"hey, what is it?" he asked her softly.
she sighed and sat up completely, and he did too, their eyes locking as they did so.
she took his hands in hers and looked down.
"what if we ran away?" she breathed, her eyes staring down at their hands.
he chuckled in disbelief. "w-what?"
she looked up and finally met his eyes. "i'm serious. on earth, there's everything we need to live. we could be together without the weight of our two worlds on our shoulders, or having to worry about what our parents might think. we could-"
"kara." he cut off her rambling. "you know we can't do that."
she looked down at his words, slowly nodding, trying to stop the tears from falling. he noticed and squeezed her hands tight.
"hey, look at me." he moved his hands from hers and reached to cup her face. "i would love to run away with you, but i can't just abandon my world right when i'm so close to leading it, and you, my sweet girl, are going to be leading the high council. your people need you. your family needs you."
"but what about us? what about the wedding?"
"there's always going to be an us. and in the next three months, i will do everything i can to stop this wedding, but just know that whatever happens, even if you end up getting married, that i will forever and always belong to you."
she pulled him into a hug and buried his face into the crook of his neck. she knew he couldn't leave. he was too selfless. she should've known better.
-
he sat in his room looking out the window at Krypton. he thought about the words Kara had told him.
run away? no. they couldn't, right? could they? he wanted to, but he had to stay, for his people.
but maybe, just this once, he could be selfish. he could leave with the girl of his dreams and start fresh.
no, he couldn't. but he wanted to.
-
"mother, what do you know about earth?" he asked as he sat down for dinner.
"earth? well i know that it is a planet very far from here. it is inhabited by humans that look similar to us. from what i've heard it is a beautiful planet." she responded
"why the sudden curiosity son?" his father asked from the other side of the table.
"oh umm- a guard told about it a few days ago. i guess i just wanted to know more about it."
a beautiful planet huh? maybe he wanted to be selfish for once.
