Amara's POV
Todays the day we verse France and I guess you could say I'm freaking out "Amara calm down" Auggie said trying to ease my nerves before the game started. Luckily he was allowed to be backstage with me as I got him a permission pass "Ich kann nicht, was, wenn wir dieses Spiel verlieren (I can't what if we lose this game)" I said panicking in German "Nun, zuerst sprichst du auf Deutsch, also hör auf (Well first you're speaking in German so stop) yeah I have a tendency to switch languages when in a crisis "Sorry" I told him "It's fine I just need you to listen to me for a moment".
Grabbing my shoulders so I look into his eyes he spoke "You my sister are an amazing person whether it be a friend or a player you just are one of the best. So I want you to calm down and realize what's happening because win or lose you go out there every game to show why you are one of the best. No matter what the results are at the end of the day no one can take anything away from you as you constantly prove yourself so you go out there and do this for you not anyone else" I didn't even let him finish before I gave him a bone crushing hug.
"That is one of the reasons you are the best brother in the world" hugging me back with equal force we only pulled away when coach called my name "Amara I hate to break up your cute sibling moment but it's time to go" before leaving to the field Auggie gave me one late good luck "Hey remember what I said do this for you...okay well you can at least try and score a goal for me too but only if you want" laughing at his playful words "Okay well I have to go but I'll also try and score for you. Now you need to head to your seat before the game starts" pushing him to the staircase I watched as he made his way towards the private seating section but I only turned to the field once I saw him sit.
Making my way to Megan and Alex as we were the starting attackers we had a quick discussion on are tactics before we had to lineup for handshakes and anthems. Once we finished shaking hands with all the French players we then got into are starting position. I talked with coach a head of this game and she told me that she wanted me to play more of an attacking position than usual. Since France was hosting the World Cup this game was bound to be intense as we were the previous winners and we are versing the home team.
Getting into game mode I focused on the game and once the whistle was blown it was game time. With all the respect I have for every team in the World Cup the majority of it has to go to the French National Team as when we played against each other it was magic. The first half of the game was difficult as we each were battling to get the first goal of the game in and luckily Pinoe scored taking some stress off me but not enough to where I was comfortable. So once the whistle was blown we headed straight to the locker room where we each discussed way to make our team stronger for the second half.
Finishing up are discussion we made are way back to are bench area where we were free to roam around until the game started. Making my to my brother, as I was walking closer to him I could hear the crowd get louder. Stopping in front of him I reached up to give him another hug "You're doing amazing little sis" letting go to talk to him "Thanks I know" we shared a laugh at my cockiness "So you see anything I can improve on" sometimes you need a new set of eyes that are watching you to have an input on the way you play "I think you've been doing good but you need to be more aggressive because I don't know why you are hesitating on some of these open shots"
I knew he was going to ask that as even I have noticed it "I know I've noticed it too, I guess I'm just scared to mess up" I really didn't have a reason to be worried but for some reason I was doubting myself which I wasn't good. "Hey remember what dad told us you miss 100% of chances that you don't take. So you go out there and you shine like the star I know you are" That's one thing about me that no matter how many World Cups I attend I will always be nervous for them. Seeing the French players come out of their tunnel I made my way back to my team as it looks like the game was about to restart.
