Just after Bella left, Alissa immediately went home with Jacob. She knew she wouldn't be able to deal with Charlie asking her questions about Bella's whereabouts because she knew she will spill everything. She will not hold back on what she thought about the Cullens and their influence on Bella. The whole ride to Jacob's house, the boy was in his own world. She knew he was distraught and she understood since Bella had made it seem that she may have been interested in Jacob even if it was only slightly.
He hadn't really spoken much when they arrived at his house. Jake went to take a shower which left Alissa with Paul who had followed them. The two were in the living room, the house was dark with only the kitchen light on.
Paul looked to the door Jacob had gone in a few minutes ago. He could hear the water running loudly but that didn't mean he wouldn't be able to hear what Paul and Alissa talked about.
Alissa opened her mouth to say something but Paul shook his head. He took her hand and lead her out of the house. Alissa was confused when he lead her to the barn where she had been spending most of her time in with her cousin and Jake.
Paul switched on the lamp inside the barn. “We can talk here,” Paul told the girl. Alissa frowned, “We could have talked inside the house.”
“Jake would have heard us.”
Alissa didn't exactly cared if he heard them. He needed to hear everything that she wanted to say. “It's not like what I was gonna say was going to be new information for Jake.”
“No but the fact that you gave leeway for Bella to go after the Cullen guy might upset him a bit.”
Alissa whipped her head up to look him in the eye. “What?”
“I saw you or should I say I felt your sadness in that moment.”
Alissa felt chills running up her spine. “I didn't m—”
Paul shook his head to interrupt her. “You don't have to explain anything to me, Alissa. I'm not obligated to know everything about you,” Paul said even though the memories he had gotten after he imprinted on her was very clear.
Alissa gulped, nodding. “I just, I didn't mean for it to seem that way. I don't approve of Bella putting herself in danger like that but I understood her in that moment.”
Paul nodded, staring at her. “I understand the feeling of wanting so desperately to save a loved one, especially someone you would consider your other half.”
It was a different kind of love but it was still love.
Paul wrapped the girl in an embrace which surprised her. The warmth of his body wrapped around hers made her stomach dip again. It was a warm hug that made her feel safe.
