Alissa avoided running into Bella the next few days. Whenever she saw the girl coming up the stairs, she'd walk right back into her room and when Bella was in busy in the kitchen, she'd join Charlie in the living room. Every room in the house Bella was in, Alissa avoided walking into. She did the same with Jacob. The two only talked on the phone, but whenever he asked her to come over, she would make up an excuse about how she was busy.

Paul still came over to her house, but she would always make him lie to Jake about where he was. Alissa could handle countless things, but not seeing the person who she considered her best friend broken again. Bella already broke his heart once, she couldn't do it a second time.

Her uncle Charlie surprisingly was trying to keep the peace in the house, no matter how mad he was at Bella for staying away for those few days. He must have picked up on the hostility that he was trying his hardest to keep the peace but also stay out of it. Alissa appreciated the fact that the man didn't ask any questions and just allowed them to cool down on their own and figure things out.

The huntress didn't know how they were ever going to figure things out. Both girls were too stubborn to talk to each other, much less apologize, so it's going to take a while before they even said one word to each other.

Alissa’s eyes focused on the target against the tree a few feet away from her. She was now in the woods at the back of their house, doing some practice. Alissa was starting to become rusty with all the lazing around. She held up her bow and shot it. It landed in the middle of the target. It had been a while since she did any kind of target practice. The last time she did this was when her aunt Kate showed up and made up some story about her bloodline.

Whatever Kate spouted was obviously a lie. Her mom would have told her and Allison one way or another if they were ang kind of supernatural being.

The girl heard rustling behind her, and she crouched down to pick up another arrow. She put the arrow on her bow before turning around, pointing it at the noise behind her. Alissa let out a sigh when she saw that it was neither a bear nor deer. It was Jacob. She would actually prefer if it was a bear or a deer.

“Jake, what are you doing here?”

“You've been avoiding me for days now. I had to come see what's going on.” Of course, he would have realised she had been avoiding seeing him. Bella was back, and she was afraid he'd want to see her again.

“There's a reason why I have been.”

Jacob sighed, “Don't tell me it's because of Bella.”

“It's  obvious,” she told him, as she placed the bow back in her bag before packing her stuff up. “That is a poor excuse, Alissa.”
