"So, Don." I said, looking around for a seat once we got back to his lab. My leg and arm were killing me and I needed to sit down.

"Y-Yeah?"

He's still scared of me. I thought with a smirk.

"Those other mutants... why were they after me?"

"You can take a seat here." he said, noticing me looking around. "To answer your question truthfully? They probably thought you were Karai. They aren't exactly the smartest of the bunch."

"Nice... so they should leave me alone now, right? You guys took care of them?"

"Uhm..."

"They're still out there, aren't they?"

"Yeah..."

"Awesome." I groaned.

"Sorry."

"For what- OW!"

I hadn't even realized that he was holding my arm until he twisted it a certain way to pop it back into place. I pulled my hand back with red eyes, cradling my arm as I backed away in my half-form.

"JERK! A LITTLE WARNING NEXT TIME!! THAT HURT!!"

"I'm sorry! I had to put it back into place since it was dislocated!"

"Still..." I pouted, taking a breath before I lost my temper. "Thank you, sorry for snipping."

"It's understandable. Here, let me put it in a cast-"

"Donnie, what was that screaming?"

We both looked up to see his brothers standing in the doorway, freezing when they saw me. My scales bristled and made a scraping sound as they brushed against the floor. The looks they were giving me were not too friendly, and it was making me nervous. I looked at Donnie as I moved to hide behind him. His brothers took that the wrong way and attacked.

"Wait! Don't attack her!"

"Out of the way, Donnie!"

I reacted to their attacks by bolting out the door and finding a hiding place. I went around the arguing brothers and through the door that led into a living room like area. I found a large room with a full grown tree in the center and went to hide behind it, hoping they wouldn't find me. I tried to calm down and went into my full human form, breathing deeply as I sat down.

"Why am I never accepted anymore?" I whispered to myself.

"Why do you say that, child?"

I yelped and jumped as I looked in front of me to see a mutant rat sitting in a meditation position. My eyes widened and I backed away, worried if he was going to attack me too.

"You do not need to fear me, young one." he said, and I could hear the foreign accent. "I promise, I do not bite."

"Heh, sorry, sir. I didn't mean to disturb your meditation."

"It is alright. Would you care to join me?"

"Thank you." I said, sitting down across from him.

"What is your name?"

"Verah Hydra, sir."

"You are very respectful, Verah. My name is Master Splinter."

"Do you live with Donnie and the others?"

"I do, you could say that I am their father. I raised them as my sons when we were first mutated many years ago and have trained them in ninjitsu."

"Masutāsupurintā, o ai dekite kōeidesu. Anata wa jukuren shita ninja denakereba narimasen."

It's an honor to meet you Master Splinter. You must be a skilled ninja.

"Ā, anata wa nihongo o shitte imasu ka?"

Ah, you know Japanese?

"A little. I took a few classes, so I know the basics... plus Mr. Murakami-san taught me a lot, too."

"Well, you seem very good. Now tell me, why are you hiding? What troubles you?"

"When I was mutated, my mother and sisters threw me out and I lived with Mr. Murakami for a few years, but now I can't go back because I'll be putting him in danger. Donnie brought me here after the Footbots attacked me in order to help me and when his brothers saw me, they seemed mad. It was like they thought I was going to attack them. I just get thrown out or forced to hide wherever I go."

"Hmm..." he said, stroking his white beard. "If you wish, you may-"

The door behind me suddenly burst open and Donnie's brothers ran inside with their weapons in hand. I jumped up as my scales showed and backed up so that I was closer to Splinter.

"Get her! She's going after Sensei!"

"A snake and a rat?! Not a good mix, bros!"

"W-Wait!" I said. "I-I'm not-"

"Get her!

"Leave her alone!" Donnie snapped.

"Yame!!"

Everyone stopped and they all bowed their heads down as Splinter stood and walked up to them. They looked almost scared of him, probably because he looked madder than a cat that just had a bath. I didn't know what to do, so I just stood there, still holding my arm since it was now throbbing because Donnie never finished treating it.

"This behavior is unexceptable, my sons." Splinter said. "Treating an injured guest like this will not be allowed. Verah Hydra will be treated with respect and will be allowed to stay here as long as she needs to. Donatello, take Miss Hydra to your lab and finish treating her wounds."

"Hai, Sensei." he bowed before motioning for me to follow. I quickly walled after him, avoiding eye contact with his brothers. Donnie led me back to his lab and finished tending to my wrist by putting a cast on it, then made sure there was nothing else.

"Sensei seems to like you." Donnie said.

"Yeah, I guess so..."

"What's wrong?"

I looked down with a sigh.

"I feel bad that your brothers are in trouble because of me. They were only trying to protect you and your dad, they shouldn't be getting in trouble for it. It's probably best if I just go. I can hide out in my lab until I'm healed up before I go back to school, I can just do online stuff till then."

"Verah, I'm not letting you go up top when you're hurt and have nowhere to go. Sensei said that you can stay here, so you should stay. We can get your things from Murakami later if you want."

"You'd do that?"

"Yeah, I trust you and I'd like you to trust me and my family."

"We'd also like to apologize."

I turned to see Donnie's brothers walking over, looking ashamed and apologetic. I could kind of tell who was who by the way they walked in and the looks in their eyes. The one in blue was Leo, the one in red was Raph, and the one in orange was Mikey.

"We should've stopped and listened for Donnie to explain the situation before we attacked you like that." Leo said.

"Yeah, we're real sorry, dudette." Mikey said.

"Raph?" Leo said, giving him a look.

"Yeah, fine, whatever. Sorry."

"Sooo... you gonna stay?" Mikey asked. "We'd like to get to know you."

I smiled at them and nodded.

"Okay, then I'll stay."
