"So you're saying, that 3 years ago he was wailing that his wife is Dead and it turns out that his wife is alive buh left him the next day." My dad clarified.
The creepy cougar nodded.
"And these things started happening after he went wailing that his daughter is Dead buh it turns out that she's alive?"
"Yes." She said.
My Dad and I exhaled in unison and relaxed in our chairs.
He started tapping his pointing fingers on the table.
I heard a zooming motorcycle sound quickly moving across the street outside.
I craned my neck to look through the window. It was Minerva heading towards the mountain again. Jude was not with her.
He must be going crazy now, if Minerva just left him at the library.
"Do you know something? I think Mr.Mack has nothing to do with this." The woman said. "I mean he is labelled as the mysterious person in town, and so do I, but I'm not doing anything?"
She stood up and went to retrieve an old book from her inner room.
I could tell it was heavy from the way she held it with both hands and carefully walked towards us.
She tossed it onto the table, throwing off some dust and the stench of old paper.
She opened a page to reveal a hedious fish creature of some sort. It had the body of a human or something that can walk on legs and the head of an ugly fish. The writings in the page were in some ancient symbols I did not know of.
"What is this?" I asked.
"This is a gaki. It's a sleep demon." She answered. She looked at as briefly, and continued.
"They cause this sleeping sickness and suck the life force of an individual when through dreams." She moved her fingers across the frightful image. "They can take the form of dead people and cause you to sleep only to suck your life force when you're sleeping. This can be the only thing causing all this."
My dad stretched his hand to turn the book towards him, but the old fortune teller held it tightly.
"You can have it for five thousand." She said, smiling.
My dad rolled his eyes and took a bundle of money from his bag, gently smacking it on the table just in front of her.
She smiled and giggled picking up the up the money and beginning to count it.
My dad placed his on the page of the gaki and begun flipping other pages to see what the book was about.
I could see a series of creatures and their descriptions, and some pages were missing and others were from other books but for some reason they were present in the book.
"It could help you with your book you're writing." She said.
We stood up and thanked her. On our way out she said.
"The gaki can only be summoned and can operate on the earth for 13 days because it leaves on the astral plane, the dream world."
"13?" I asked.
She looked at me.
I sat down and leaned towards her.
"Can you tell me anything about 13?"
My Dad grunted and sat beside me away from her.
"Well I know that the gakis fear 13, they won't mention 13 if they could talk. I don't know if they do." She said.
"Why?...why 13?" My Dad asked.
"13 has been a number of interest for ages. There are 13 true full moons in a year, 13 treasures of Britain and so forth."
She adjusted her self well in her seat and leaned forward lowering her voice.
"13 is also an unlucky number, some buildings skip the 13 floor on the elevator when numbering them. And in the tarot card deck, those we use for fortune telling."
My dad and I nodded.
"Yeah." She said. "The 13th card is a picture of a pale dark horse with a rider, which symbolizes death."
I went cold.
"I would get the hell out of place with at least one mysterious 13 symbolism."
I sprang out of her chair and quickly thanked her and got out of the shack. My Dad was still inside the shack talking to her. I was outside softly panting, all information gathered so far was colliding in my head.
Crazy Mr. Mack and his obsession with 13 and all this oddities with the midnight sleep walking people were driving me crazy.
My dad cane out if the shack with a wild eagerness and agitation.
"Take the car and get Minerva out of that cottage. I'll go and get your brother." He quickly said.
He properly fit the old book we got from the shack into his bag and tossed me me the keys.
"Hurry up!" He yelled.
He went off looking for the library as he spoke to Jude in the phone.
The cottage was silent when I arrived. The birds were chirping and the nature was alive but it was still quiet.
I did not knock or call out to see if anyone was inside. I slowly opened the door hearing some low murmurs and quick pants and breaths. I discovered, it was coming from the mysterious room filled with XIII inscriptions all over the walls.
I got close to the door and I could tell it was a cry or a moan, of pain or passion and pleasure.
Is it what I'm thinking?
I quickly turned the knob of the door and pushed it open.
Minerva was naked on top of Lola. Her hands were softly choking Lola while she passionately kissed her. Lola's right hand hand a tight grip on Minerva's buttocks while the left hand squeezed her left breasts and the fingers rubbed her nipple.
I stood there stunned for at least 30 seconds untill Minerva noticed me right in front of the door.
"What the hell Nev!" She yelled.
I quickly closed the door.
