Rhaegar no longer knew how to feel; happy, heartbroken, angry, afraid, exultant ...
After all, if on one hand what he had done was right, on the other hand the man he had just killed was his father and the father of his siblings.
With each step he took along the corridor where he was, he was closer and closer to Daenerys and Viserys' room, and with each step the latter's voice was heard louder and clearer.
From what Rhaegar had managed to decipher, his brother Viserys was singing a song, however, unknown to him.
Viserys had always been good at singing, and sometimes tried to show his talent to their father even though it always ended with Viserys in tears and Aerys screaming that a Targaryen is not a court jester.
After a few steps he had arrived at his destination. Before him was the door that separated him from having to tell Viserys that their father was dead.
'Viserys is an intelligent child, if I tell him the truth he will not hate me ... I'm sure of it', he kept repeating himself even though he didn't know what his brother's real reaction would be.
At least Daenerys was still small, a beautiful one-year-old to whom Rhaegar wouldn't have to say anything at least until she was old enough to understand and want.
When he knocked on the door, the singing from inside the room stopped and footsteps preceded its opening.
"Rhaegar!"
Viserys said joyfully.
"Viserys, why are you so happy?"
"I managed to make Daenerys smile by singing!"
"Maybe she did it because you make him laugh."
Viserys looked at him sadly, how could his big brother tell him such a thing knowing that singing is his greatest passion and his greatest talent?
"I was joking, you fool!"
Rhaegar said smiling as he closed the door behind him.
"Are you sure?"
“Of course I'm sure! You're certainly better than me at singing, and you're really good at it. "
"Our father doesn't think the same way ..."
The time had come, Rhaegar was aware of it. As much as their father was not a good person, however much Viserys cried because of him, Rhaegar knew it would not be easy to tell his little brother that their father was dead; moreover, it was he who had killed him.
"Viserys there is one thing I have to tell you, and it's better if you sit down."
Viserys looked at him confused, but obeyed and sat down on his soft bed.
Rhaegar joined him shortly thereafter, still in the balance whether to tell him the truth or not.
"Then? What do you have to tell me? "
Rhaegar turned to him and took his little brother's hands around his.
"Do you know that some Targaryens were known to be mad?"
“Yes, of course I know. The Septa continues to insist that I must know all things that happened in the Seven Kingdoms before my birth, and all the names of those who ruled them. For sure big brother I know some Targaryens were mad. "
"I am grateful that you are studying the history of our continent, but that is not the point."
"So what is it?"
“You see… Our father was one of them. A little while ago I spoke to him, and he ordered me to bring him the heads of Daenerys and my wife and then to burn the whole city. "
"You said 'was', why?"
"... I killed him. I had to do it you understand? I couldn't let him kill everyone. "
"What did you do?"
Viserys looked Rhaegar in the eyes, his big brother had killed their father; the reason why he did it was right, and even if he had suffered through his fault, he could only cry in front of that news. And so he did.
His body was leaning against that of his big brother, and his tears ran down his cheeks, wetting Rhaegar's armor and the sheets as they passed.
Rhaegar didn't know what to do, so he held him close.
After moments of silence interspersed with sobs produced by Viserys' tears, the latter wiped his tears and looked at his brother.
“That's okay. You had to do it, I understand. "
"Are you sure?"
"I’m sure. He wanted to have you killed our sister, your wife and then everyone. If that wasn't a good reason to kill him, I don't know what it could be. "
Rhaegar was amazed by his brother's words, who sometimes had fits of anger. Perhaps his father was their cause, perhaps Rhaegar needed someone more calm, and who loved him by his side. Him, his big brother, would be his father figure ever since; and even though he was a little scared at the idea, he was happy about it. If he was like a father to his siblings, that meant Cersei would be like a mother to them.
“You are such a good boy. And know that Cersei and I will protect you and your sister, always. "
"Even when you’ll have children?"
"Of course! My children will be like siblings to you, we will be one big family. "
"… If you say so."
"Aren't you happy?"
"You and Cersei recently got married, and I don't know her very well yet, but what they say about her ..."
"You mean about her and Jaime?"
Viserys nodded.
"There’s no need to be worried. It was before our wedding, much earlier. "
"Are you sure?"
"I'm more than sure."
Rhaegar said with a smirk.
"Then I'd love to get to know her better."
"I have to go to her now, so I'll tell her."
"Great."
After exchanging smiles and pampering Daenerys a little, the two took two different paths.
Viserys stayed with his sister, and Rhaegar walked down the corridor again and walked for more. He climbed the stairs and walked down other corridors until he reached his wife's room which was guarded by two soldiers.
"I'd like to speak to my wife."
"Wait a moment."
One of the guards knocked on the door and announced his presence. Footsteps were heard on the other side and when the door opened the Grand Master Pycelle was there.
He was supposed to be with Jaime taking care of his father’s body right now, but he wasn't.
He was hoping that Jaime was doing what he had ordered equally well, and he was wondering what the Grand Master was doing in Cersei’s chambers.
When Rhaegar passed by Pycelle, the man smiled joyfully at him and let him into the room.
Cersei had a loose white dress, and her hair was down; it was all he saw until she turned and beyond her smile Rhaegar could see the joy in her eyes, a joy he had only seen on their wedding day.
"Rhaegar!"
Cersei said getting up from the bed, then hugging him.
"Why are you so happy?"
"First I'd like to know why you're here."
Rhaegar didn't know if the time was right, he didn't want to see her beautiful smile change. But Cersei was not someone to be easily countered so he did as he had done with Viserys.
He sat her on the bed, where she was previously positioned, then he sat down next to her and held her hands in his as their eyes were crossed.
"Cersei, I wouldn't want to ruin your happiness but there is one important thing I should tell you and that for now, in addition to me, Jaime and Viserys also know."
"Don’t worry. I don't think anything can take away my smile right now."
"Then if you're so sure I would say what I have tell you."
“That's exactly what I want. Tell me everything you need to tell me. "
Rhaegar sighed and finally made up his mind to say a word about what he had done.
"... I killed my father."
"What … ?"
Cersei let go of Rhaegar's hands, and looked at him in fear.
“I don't want to kill you, don't worry. I'm not a killer, and I'm not mad either. "
"Why did you do that?"
“He asked me to kill my sister, and blow up the city so everyone burned. Above all he wanted me to kill you. You know, as usual he was screaming that you are not the right bride for me and that you must give me an heir as soon as possible. "
Cersei calmed down, and approached Rhaegar. She smiled again, and as she took her husband's hands in hers a little laugh escaped her mouth.
Rhaegar looked at her puzzled. He would never have thought she could laugh after hearing what he had done, and why.
"Cersei ... Is everything okay?"
“I'm sorry for your father, for what you had to do; but if you'd only waited you would know you could make him happy. "
"What do you mean?"
"Do you know why Pycelle was here before?"
"No, I do not know."
"But have you tried to think about it?"
"Yup."
"And didn't you think of anything?"
"No."
Cersei smiled and brought Rhaegar's hands to her belly.
The boy looked at her smiling, but also heartbroken. He had killed his father because he wanted Cersei's head since she had not yet given him an heir and now, shortly after killing him, he has known that he will soon have one.
"So our baby will be a prince and you the king, right?"
"And you will be My Queen."
The two kissed.
They would have a baby, half Targaryen and half Lannister, half dragon and half lion.
