Episode Four, Part 2:
Small Sacrifices

All these people think love's for show,
but I would die for you in secret.

After Kodiak had returned Chessca to a new cell, still not confident in leaving her alone, he made his way back to Wynn, finding that he needed a few moments before he left him again. He shut himself in the cell with Wynn, sitting on one of the beds, exhausted from surviving the past 6 months on his own.

"How are you feeling?" Wynn asked empathetically, observing him from across the room.

"Overwhelmed," Kodiak admitted. "I can't believe you're all finally here, let alone that I'm talking to you. I've waited so long to see you again."

"I get it," Wynn said. "I still can't believe you're alive... It's a tough one to wrap my head around, but I'm so indebted all the same. And if it's any consolation, I know how you feel," he said. "When I finally saw Sol again after all that time apart, even though it didn't go back to normal right away; even though I couldn't just blurt out how much I loved her like I'd wanted to all that time, it was the greatest feeling in the world, but it was still so overwhelming and not all in a good way."

"I wasn't even going to tell you," Kodiak chuckled at himself, still trying to figure out how his confession could tie into his plans.

"...Why did you?" Wynn asked. "Why me and Chess and not Sol and Dreea?"

"Well, I had to bring you both down here, anyway," Kodiak said. "So I knew I could come here without being asked questions by everyone else. And I brought you both here because of your implants," he said. "I didn't know if you guys still had them in or not, and I didn't know how that would affect the trials if you still do."

"Yeah, we have them still," Wynn said. "Fenn and Aeryn didn't want to risk taking them out if they could remain in our heads without being activated, which we knew wasn't going to happen seeing as Hannah's dead."

"She is?" Kodiak's voice raised up in hope. It had been so long since he let a thought pass about her that he had almost forgotten her entirely.

"Yeah," Wynn nodded. Deep down, he was so relieved that she was gone, but there was still a part of him that ached for his brother; he couldn't forget the first few weeks in the Bunker when everyone was a mess; Quill was traumatised by what Hannah had done to his family - and losing her the same way twice, and he, Sol and Elara were all emotional wrecks after thinking Kodiak was dead. It was just about the worst time in their entire lives: that, and when they lost Ares.

"There was a problem with getting the Bunker door to close," he recalled. "The only way it could be sealed was from outside and Hannah sacrificed herself for us... For Quill."

"How did he take it?" Kodiak investigated. "Is he okay? I mean, from what I saw in the mess hall, you three seem okay again. I'm so happy for you guys."

Wynn smiled. "He's fine. We're closer than ever. In fact, he was the only one who could get Ell to smile again after we first thought we lost you... Him and Izzy."

"Izzy," Kodiak murmured her name, smiling fondly.

"How could I forget?" Wynn shook her head. "She's one of the children from The City of Targo; she came with Hannah and Liam. Elara's taken care of her the entire time we were down there. She's really become a part of our family."

"So I heard," Kodiak smiled. "Uncle Wynn."

He laughed, beaming back at him. "Yeah, that's what I'm called now... You'll love her, Kodiak. She's heard every story about you-"
