To say Harper wasn't drained by the time she got home would've been a lie. After throwing her heels to the other end of the room and basically face planting on the bed, all she wanted to do at that moment was to sleep. It was something she wasn't getting enough of lately. After everything that happened to her, Harper couldn't shut her eyes without the images of her falling or their battles with Trigon plaguing her mind. She kept replaying those moments over and over again. So sleep came as a rarity for her.
She had slipped out of her dress, thrown on a loose tee and sweats before removing her makeup and throwing her hair into a messy bun.
Harper crossed her legs under her duvet as she picked up her phone and opened Gar's contact. She wanted to check up on him, see how he was coping with being all alone. Also she wanted to see if there was any progress on Conner's condition.
Dialling the number she saw a picture of her and Gar pop up as she watched it ring. Not even a few seconds later, his excited voice rang through the line.
" Hey, Gar." She smiled as she greeted the boy, her eyes lighting up for the first time in a while.
" Harper? Hey," His voice rang, she could hear he was barely keeping his excitement to himself.
" I was just checking in. Making sure you're doing alright." She said as she heard shuffling and what seemed to be shushing.
" Yeah, no I'm good. Great actually. Everything's fine back here." He exclaimed as Harper grabbed a pillow and placed it on her lap.
" How is Conner?" She asked. When Harper had left, the boy was still comatosed. She was concerned for his well being, considering the fact that if he wasn't there to rescue her, she would have been dead.
" Conner, He is great. I mean, he still is oblivious but he is...adjusting." Gar said as he struggled to find the correct words to describe the boy.
" Well that's good. Is he a handful?" Harper teased. She could only imagine how hard it must be to look after the boy who not only a few days ago, couldn't even remember his name.
" He isn't bad. He's learning. But Harper he is so cool. I mean, you should of seen him, he beat that boss level we've been struggling with so easily." Gar said, she could hear his happiness through the phone.
" No way. He did. Man, he must teach me how not to lose." She grumbled.
Gar laughed. " Oh by the way, we need a new punching bag."
Harper grew confused. " A new punching bag. Why?. "
She could picture Gar nervously scratching the base of his neck as he sheepishly smiled at her. " Conner may or may have not, umm, accidenlty punched a hole straight through it." He mumbled.
Harper was silent as she tried to comprehend what the teenager had just told her. " You mean to tell me, that there is a hole, in a pretty much solid punching bag, that unless you were super macho, is unable to break."
" Yeah"
Harper groaned. " Honestly, I should of expected it. Just get it fixed. Jason won't be happy that his favourite use of anger issues has a hole displayed for the world."
" He has a favourite punching bag?"
" Don't question it." Harper laughed as she heard a scrape. She figured he must of sat down somewhere.
" Have you spoken to Dick yet?" He questioned. He hoped that maybe they still kept in contact even if they did kind of separate for a bit.
" I haven't, not yet Gar. Everything is still so fresh." She sighed, she knew he was going to bring up Dick, just like Oliver had.
" You can't stay mad at him forever you know. You need to forgive him." Gar softly told her. He saw how guttered Dick was when Harper left, he could only imagine that she was the same.
" I'm not mad Gar, it's just. Jericho was someone special to us and for him to lie. To keep that big of a secret. I- I just didn't know how to react."
" Harper you punched him in the face. But I get it. You're disappointed, but I saw how he acted when you left. He wouldn't admit it, but it hurt. He understands that. But you need to talk to him Harper. You two love each other too much for this to place a wedge between you guys. You've overcome more."
That boy had a way with words, Harper would give him that. " I know Gar, he just need to sort himself out first "
" Just think about it alright."
" I will Gar. " She promised. Harper heard a ding and Gar's rushing of footsteps.
" Uh Harper, I need to go. Um Conner just left. " His voice stuttered. She could almost feel his panic.
" What?" She questioned.
" Yeah um, I'm going after him."
" Do I need to come there, I will." She said as she sat up straighter on her bed, her worry for the two boys increasing.
" No, no it's okay. I have this covered. Just think about what I said. I love you." He rushed.
Before she could respond he had put the phone down. Harper slowly retracted the device from her ear, looking down at the words call ended.
“ Well I love you too"
We've been lacking some Gar and Harper moments.
