OSWALD'S POV:
"Guys, come down for dinner." Mom calls out to us and we make our way downstairs after I put a shirt on.
"Hi Nessa." Rosy greets before taking a seat beside me.
"Hey Rosy. How are you?" They engage in a slight conversation before dinner is served.
Mr. Russo doesn't join us till we're almost done with dinner.
Rosy freezes when they make eye contact but recomposes herself.
I take her hand in mine and give it a gentle squeeze as if to say it's all going to be alright.
"Oh great. We're having dinner with the gold digger."
Rosy freezes again and I get ready to beat that man to pulp but she holds me back.
"Don't." She whispers, though I can hear the hurt in her voice. Her eyes are glassy. How can she not want me to do justice to him?
"Valco, watch your language. This girl is an amazing person. If only you'd take the time to know her." Mom stands up for Rosy and she smiles in appreciation.
"But I do know her. She is just a poor girl from a poor family looking for a rich and good looking guy like my son to take interest in her and distract him from his work. In short, she's a gold digger."
I can't take it anymore; Sit here and just watch as he bad mouths my girlfriend.
I move over to where he is and quickly land a punch on his nose before Rosy can stop me.
You can hear the crack as my fist makes an impact on his nose.
"Think twice before you talk shit about my girlfriend." I warn him and make my way back to Rosy's side.
"See? This is the attitude she encourages. You dared to hit your own father for a girl? How weak you have gotten." He laughs emotionlessly and if I don't leave this place this minute, I might kill my own father.
"Come on, Rosy. I'll take you home."
She looks up at me and says, "I don't want to go home, Os. I'd like to stay and finish my dinner."
"Of course, she would like to eat. I bet her parent's low income can't cook up a meal as good as this."
Why is Rosy even putting up with him?
"Perhaps Mr. Russo, I may not come from a home where money falls from trees but I respect myself and I have my dignity to protect. I'm not with Os for his money. I'm with him because I love him and I know he loves me too. So call me whatever name you want. Say whatever rubbish you want to say about me but do not try to bring my parents into this. They are very hardworking people and they value the money they earn because that is what takes care of my siblings and I. I don't need to depend on your money to survive." She looks up at him and I give her a smile, proud of her for standing up to him.
"Great speech. Want to deliver it at the Emmys? Oh wait, that's right. You can't get in." He laughs alone while we all glare at him.
Rosy looks down and smiles sadly.
"One day you'll come to know that you were wrong Mr. Russo."
"No. The only thing we'll know one day is that people like you are of no good to our family. We're better off without gold diggers like you in our lives."
"Enough! Rosy, LET'S GO." I dragged her up to my room to get her things.
"Why would you sit there for him to say those things to you, Rosy?"
