TW: Restrictive Eating
~Sophia's POV~
Loud. If anyone asked me to describe September 1st every year in the great hall at Hogwarts, I would say "loud." First years are excited about getting sorted, 5th years, like myself, are dreading taking the O.W.L's this year, and then there are the 7th years who are counting down the days they have left. Fred and George are prime examples. They always talk about opening up a joke shop. I wonder if they'll ever make it a reality.
I was sitting at the Slytherin table passing paper birds back and forth with Fred and George. Marcus Flint was on my left and Blaise Zabini was on my right. This was just due to every single student being in the great hall. If there was more room, they wouldn't sit next to me. Nobody in Slytherin house would, but that's okay. My only real friends were Fred and George, and I preferred that way. My parents used to encourage me to talk to the other Slytherin students. I never did. If there's one thing I do not do, it's stepping out of my comfort zone. I don't like to chance the risk that I'll get hurt or betrayed. I think that's why George, Fred, and I are so close. We would never do anything to harm one another. Plus even if I did want friends in Slytherin, it's not like I have a chance now thanks to Pansy.
By the time we all got settled in the great hall, the horrifying story of me staring at Draco during the carriage ride had gotten around to the whole school. If looks could kill, I'd be dead for sure, and Pansy would be the one pulling the trigger. As soon as I sat down at the table, she shot me a look that screamed murder. I turned my head away from her as soon as we made eye contact, but that didn't prevent me from hearing her give the whole school a visual representation of branding what was hers. Swapping saliva never sounded so noisy. Draco was Pansy's, and she wanted everyone to know. I've never even had my first kiss granted, but if I had, there's still no way in hell I'd be making out in front of the entire school. Gross.
George and Fred noticed what she was doing and looked at me while raising their eyebrows. They were on the other side of the room and they still heard them. She was making it very well known that they were now on in their on-again-off-again relationship. I usually never can tell, but tonight the entire school could. I pretended to put my finger down my throat and make a gagging noise. That earned a laugh from the twins, but another scowl from Pansy. I guess she broke for air just in time to see my gesture. Lucky me.
It wasn't too long before Dumbledore gave his annual day back speech. To which Malfoy pretended to snore through. I rolled my eyes and continued to keep to myself. When the food appeared, I just grabbed a roll and ate quietly. After what seemed like forever, we were finally dismissed. I grabbed my books quickly and rushed over to see George and Fred.
"Sophia! So we were thinking that tonight we could sneak out and drink fire whiskey by the Whomping Willow," George said eagerly.
"Yeah! We took some from Dad's liquor cabinet before we left, but he shouldn't notice. We could also-" Fred started to chime in but I interrupted him.
"That sounds great guys, but I think I'll stay in tonight. It's only day 1 you know," I said with a smile, hoping that I didn't hurt their feelings.
I really did want to hang out with them. I can let loose and have fun with I'm with the right people, but I had a feeling that with my newfound reputation as Malfoy's stalker, it would be best if I didn't get caught walking past his private dormitory on my way out. Yes, you heard me correctly. Private. Dorm. Everyone else shares a room without about 5 or 6 other people. However, not everyone else has Malfoy's financial resources.
"Please, please, please, PLEASEEEE," the twins shouted at the top of their lungs with their arms crossed, dancing around in circles like they were throwing a temper tantrum. Which, they kinda were.
Not even 25% of the students had cleared out of the great hall when they started their little shrieking outburst. Heads turned and eyes stared. " Alright, if this is how Malfoy felt in the carriage then maybe I owe him an apology, " I thought, completely embarrassed by what was going on right next to me. I absolutely hate being the center of attention. That's exactly what I was. I was like a Mum trying to get control of her two screeching children in a supermarket aisle. You try not to look, but you just can't help it.
I put one hand over each of their mouths. I had to stand on my toes to reach them.
"If you two boys don't start behaving I'll write your Mum. You know I'll do it. Would be a shame if you two received a special letter in the mail," I warned, referring to a howler.
Their eyes widened and they immediately nodded that they understood. As cocky as they act, I know they'll always be scared of their Mum. As I said, a howler from Mrs. Weasley is unforgettable.
I removed my hands and beaded my eyes a little at them, still minorly pissed at their stunt. I bid them goodnight and turned to walk down to the Slytherin dorms. Just as I was about to walk out of the hall completely, George yelled "You wouldn't really write Mum would you? That seems a little-Ow what'd you do that for?!". He had earned an elbow jab right to the ribs from Fred.
"Keep quiet. Don't piss her off even more," Fred scolded his brother, afraid that I would in fact write their Mum.
I smiled to myself and kept walking. Might as well keep them on their toes.
When I reached the Slytherin dorms, I immediately took everything in. The silver and green ambiance, the crackles of the roaring fire, the smell. It smelled of eucalyptus. When I first snuck Fred and George into the common room two years ago, they were quite surprised at how comfortable the common room is. If I recall correctly, their exact words were, "Bloody hell. I'm surprised there aren't any first years hanging by their toes in the corner. Thought it might smell of burning flesh and death."
A few students were by the fireplace, others on the couches. I walked softly up the stairs to the 5th year girls' dormitory. My heart almost pounded out of my chest from relief when I saw that the bed next to the window was still open. I always tried to get the bed closest to the window. Our common room is located under the black lake so the views are always incredible. Merpeople swimming, the giant squid trying to catch its next meal, I loved watching all of it.
After about 30 minutes of unpacking, I got out my quill, ink, and a piece of parchment and started to write my first letter back home. It was going to Sirius.

AUTHOR'S NOTE
Ahhhhh this is definitely NOT my favorite chapter, BUT it is essential to the next few chapters especially and the story in general. I know things are slow, but they will definitely start to pick up very soon hehe.
IMPORTANT!!! The next update will be a DOUBLE UPDATE. The first chapter will be Sophia's letter to Sirius and the next will continue the story. I always find it's easier to read when author's put letters in their own chapters. Sirius' letter will still be titled with a song (more than likely). Please remember to read both (that is if you like the story lol)! Love you all, thank you so much for reading my story :)
