TW: Violence

~Sophia's POV~

Day two. I walked into potions the same as the day before and took my seat. Malfoy was nowhere to be found. When I met up with Fred and George and told them what happened they tried to make me feel better. Offering to prank Malfoy by slipping him some Puking Pastilles. I politely declined their offer and told them that would just make matters worse. They both walked me to class as usual and gave me sympathetic smiles before they went on their way. That leaves me where I am now.

I sat there bouncing my leg and picking at my lip. Two minutes till the start of class, still no Malfoy. "Today we actually brew the potion. Where the bloody hell is he? I swear if leaving me to do the bloody potion alone was his idea of a game I'll-" Malfoy walked in and sat next to me causing my doubts to subside. As he sat down he folded his arms in front of his chest and threw his head back. I kept looking over my notes trying to avoid eye contact.

As I was reading the instructions a yawn pushed its way out of my mouth. Malfoy noticed and leaned in to say "rough night?". Cocky git.

"Yeah, you should know. Why were you in the common room that late yourself?" I asked.

"Why do you bloody care?" he said while also avoiding eye contact.

"Damn, it was just a question. No need to get so defensive, Malfoy."

"Still having an attitude I see. What made you so brave this time?"

"Why do you bloody care?" I said while folding my arms, trying to mock him. He threw his head back and rolled his eyes, obvious that he didn't like that I wasn't fearful of him anymore. I smiled to myself, celebrating my small victory.

Soon after that Snape walked in, black cape flowing like always. He gave the go-ahead to brew the potion so we started. I started crushing the moonstone and put it into the potion until it turned green. The next step was to stir until the potion turned blue and then add more powdered moonstone until it was purple. The fourth step was to let it simmer until it turned dark pink. Once it was sitting on heat I turned to Draco.

"Are you going to do any of this or are you going to make me do it alone?" I asked.

"Oh but you're doing so well. My only goal in life is to see you succeed," he said while batting his eyelashes like a toddler. I rolled my eyes at him and went back to making the potion.

I was adding the syrup of hellebore when Draco cleared his throat next to me. I ignored it when he did it again, and again, and again. "Something you'd like to say, Malfoy?"

"Just that you're doing it wrong," Malfoy replied.

"What do you mean? I'm following the instructions."

"No, you're not," Malfoy said while taking the hellebore away from me. "It's supposed to turn turquoise, not royal blue."

I turned away from him to look back at the potion that was brewing in front of me, sure enough, it was royal blue.

"Oh, um..thanks," I said.

"Why're you thanking me? It's my project too. I'm not letting you bring me down with you," he snarked while fixing the potion.

"It was one mistake. Haven't you ever made a mistake before, Malfoy?"

"Yeah, agreeing to work with a blood traitor like you."

"I'd rather be a blood traitor than a prick," I said back, not knowing where the confidence came from this time, but I kinda liked it.

He turned to me and his silver eyes met my blue ones. He opened his mouth and a laugh escaped his lips. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but a laugh surely wasn't it.
