Carla
We all watch Polo from the far end of the club, each of us with their partners, Nadia shadowed by Guzman, Omar and Ander next to each other, Valerio by Cayetana's side and standing behind Lu who's at the front, her martini in hand as she pierces Polo with her eyes. Samuel's hand is still grasping mine tightly, his eyes a straight line towards the unwanted guest, his grip tightening when he starts moving deeper into the club and towards us. Samuel makes an attempt to get to him but get stopped by Valerio and Cayetana who move before him.
I'm still holding his hand with so much force, afraid that he would slip away, that his anger would break his control, and that it would break us. It was what I feared most.
"What is he doing here?" Guzman says while approaching us, Nadia by his side doing the exact same thing I was doing, holding our ragged boyfriends back however we could.
"Making it damn clear he's won. And we can't do shit about it!" Lu's voice is low but loud at the same time, she tilts her head to the side watching Polo argue with her brother, takes a big sip of her glass and makes her way to them.
"She's right though." Guzman says after a few seconds, his eyes furious despite his calm posture, unlike Samuel who was vibrating with furry. "He won."
He gives Samuel a hard yet sad defeated look before threading his fingers with Nadia and dragging her towards the bar.
Samuel's body shivers and I press myself to his side, lips close to his ears, "Let it go please." I beg him and doubt he even heard me, his face fixed on Polo as he moves around the club, "He's not worth it, Samuel."
"I'll be right back." Samuel was starting to lose control, I feel it in my bones and it terrifies me.
It's on the tip of my tongue to tell him not to leave me just like I was not leaving him, but I hold it back. Instead, I stay frozen in place and watch him walk away from me slowly. My chest is heaving with each step he takes and for some unknown reason, each one puts a heavier weight on my chest, every one is a defining step in our story.
