Carters POV
"Okay guys, before we start, I just want to say that whatever I decided please don't get mad. It isn't personal. Trust me. If it was I wouldn't be choosing who I am for what," I said.
The six of us were sitting in a circle on the floor. It was morning and most of us had just woken up, but me and Karl had been awake for awhile.
I had talked with Karl about my decisions before hand and he agreed with them for the most part. I was worried how everyone would react to my choices. I didn't want any of them to kill me because I didn't pick them.
Drew, William, and Damian were sitting close to us, but not to close. I told them they could listen and watch as long as they didn't interfere.
"Okay so obviously I am the leader so I needed to decided who is ranked as what. Eva let's start with you since you are the least likely to kill me," I joked.
She laughed and I continued, "Okay since you shape shift and can easily blend in thanks to your Earth element, you will be the one to go on most undercover and spy type missions. Does everyone agree?"
"What do you mean does everyone agree?" Blaise asked.
"I talked to Karl about this and we decided that if anyone disagrees, they can tell me why and I will take it into consideration. That way everything is the best for the group and not just me," I explained.
Everyone thought about it and nodded. I think their nodding was a mixture of their approval of the position I picked for Eva and their approval of how I was deciding this.
"Okay next, Avalon. Don't take this badly... but you are scary. Which is why you would be good for scaring people. If we ever get to the point where we need to get information from someone, you can use your powers to get information from them," I told her.
She thought a moment and I was worried she was going to kill me, but then she finally smiled and said, "Okay. I guess you did a pretty good job."
I smiled and continued on, "Rowen your main job is to be the voice of reason. Make sure we don't kill each other or do something stupid. Karl you will help me like you have been. Helping me decide important decisions and being my backup."
I paused and before I could continue Blaise said, "You saved me for last?"
"Yeah, because you are the one I'm most hesitant about," I told him, "As much as I hate to admit it, you are smart, you are a good fighter, and I have left you in charge once already so... you are my second in command," I said the last part quickly.
There was silence for the moment and finally he said, "I am pretty awesome aren't I?"
I rolled my eyes and said, "Don't let it go to your head. You are only in charge when I am gone."
Karl then continued where I left off, "Of course we all have to do basic stuff, like fight and everything. The stuff she told us were just the things she thinks we would be best at."
They all nodded and I said, "Okay so let's all get ready quick and head back to Jeremiah. I think today we can actually learn something. I am already ready so I'm going to go on ahead. I need to talk to him about something."
"About what?" Rowen asked.
"Just things about being a good leader and stuff. It is all boring stuff that would just waste training time. Blaise, you are in charge. Don't mess it up," I joked.
Blaise rolled his eyes at me and I left and went towards were Jeremiah lived. I entered without knocking and he didn't look at me. I knew that he could sense me though.
"Why are you here alone?" he finally asked.
"You seem to tell me more information when I am alone. So I decided to come a few minutes earlier than the rest of the group. I need to know everything you can tell me," I explained.
"Did deciding the ranks go well?" he asked.
I knew he had changed the subject, but I answered anyways, "Yeah, I think I made the right choices for the group. I think they all like my decisions too, so that is good."
"I'm glad it went well. I have seen it split up groups before in the past because they didn't agree and the decisions were biased," he said.
"I know you are avoiding my question..." I said trying to get us back on topic.
"I am merely asking you questions."
"Only to avoid my questions. Will you please give me a normal answer. Just once?"
Instead of answering me he got up and went to a cabnet. It had three locks on it. A padlock, a digital password lock, and a finger scanner. Obviously it was meant to keep people out.
He put in the passwords and scanned his finger and the cabinet openned. He dug around inside for a few minutes then pulled out a box. He handed it to me and didn't say anything.
I looked at the box for a moment. It was just a simple, plain box. Nothing interesting about it. Then I openned it up. Inside was a necklace. It had a simple star on it. Not a nice star though, a star that a little kid draws with all the extra lines. Kind of like a Wicca star but with out the circle surrounding it.
I looked at it for a moment then asked, "Why did you give me a necklace?"
"I gave you half a necklace. This necklace will help you find the person you need to win the war. They have a necklace like this. When you find them give them the necklace. The two necklaces will combine and unleash their true power," Jeremiah explained.
I examined the necklace once more then put it around my neck and hid it under my shirt so no one would see it.
"Anything else you need to tell me?" I asked.
"Yeah, once everyone in your group has their powers I will die. Not painfully or anything. I will just die. Once I'm dead, come here and open the desk drawers. All of them," he said.
"All of them?" I asked.
"Yes, in this order," he then openned the bottom left, top right, top left, middle, then bottom right drawers.
He looked at me to make sure I had memorized the order then said, "That is all you need to know. Once you do that you will get a note with instructions which well tell you everything. But for now all you need to do is train, find the person with the matching necklace, and memorize that combination."
I paused a moment. I was hoping he would be around to help us with the war. As crazy as he was we kind of needed him. Especially me, because I had no clue what to do. But he thought I was ready to be a leader and he was the smartest person I had ever met, so I decided to listen to him.
"Okay, I understand," I finally said.
Then I heard someone open the door. It was Karl. Next to him was Eva.
"Where is the rest of the group?" I asked
"Right here," he pointed behind him as the others started wandering up.
"Okay, since you're all here, let's get started on training," Jeremiah said.
