"So, I told him that I'm going to help him remember what happened."
The four girls looked at me with dumbfounded expressions plastered on their faces. They looked at me in disbelief and laughed but they sounded so done instead of actually sounding happy.
"Saeji, I don't know but I'm suddenly scared of you." Eunsun laughed but tears started to form in the corner of her eyes.
"What? I'm not doing anything? Why are you scared? And are you seriously crying?"
"We just can't predict you sometimes and we're shocked with what you've told us," Cheonsa added, “you're going to work with a ghost.”
“Honestly, I want to believe you. I believe you. But there's a part of me that really doesn't want to believe you. I'm so torn.” Seoji sighed.
I see. What I've done isn't actually normal. Why did I promise a ghost to help him with an investigation? What's in it for me? The thrill? The fun?
“Who wouldn't be scared? You're making it seem normal. Are you sure you're not possessed?” Lali grabbed the bag of chips on my desk and ate all of it.
“Hey! That's mine?”
“Well, I'll just buy you one later.” I scoffed and turned my back from them.
My eyes squinted when it caught a familiar person outside our classroom. I couldn't see who it was clearly but I think he's one of the guys.
Is that Jay?
The sea of students made it harder for him to reach our door so I held my hand out for him to grab.
“Yo, Saeji. Whatcha doing?” Someone tapped my shoulder, making me turn my head on the side.
“Oh hey, Sunoo! I'm just trying to help Jay out.”
“Jay...? He's not here?” I furrowed my brows and looked back at the person I saw.
My hands froze and my eyes widened. I didn't expect to see him here today. What was he doing here? Did he follow me?
“Oh my god, sorry.” I sighed before awkwardly retracting my hands back.
Heeseung's here!
“I must have um—I… have poor eyesight! I think I need to get my eyes checked.”
I tried my best to act normal, I purposely ignored Heeseung who's now walking behind Sunoo and I. I can't just talk to him in front of my friend so I signaled him to wait. I'll talk to him after my chat with Sunoo.
How did I even do this mistake? My eyes are seriously in need of repair.
“Ah Sunoo! I'll be back before the class starts. I'll just buy something!”
“What are you going to buy? Should I come with you?” he stood up again but I stopped him.
“N-no it's just a pen! I'll be back fast.” I didn't wait for him to say anything and ran out of the room.
I secretly looked behind me to see if he was following and he was. His gaze was focused on my back. It seems like he was thinking of something.
I covered my mouth with my handkerchief and slowed down a bit. I felt a piercing cold something on my back, which was supposed to be a slight bump if only he had a physical body. Heeseung bumped on me.
I ignored the cold and slight pain creeping up my spine and continued to walk, slightly shivering. I heard my name being called so I stopped. I saw Ni-ki jogging to me.
Why am I seeing everyone today?
“Have you seen Sunoo hyung?”
“Ah yes… h-he's in the classroom.” I said and removed the handkerchief from my mouth.
“Are you okay? You look cold.” he looked at me with pure concern but I just shook my head and showed him a smile, “Okay… well then, see you later, noona!” he waved his hands and left. I continued to walk, Heeseung following behind.
We reached the safest and the most quiet place near our building. I stopped and grabbed on the clothes I'm wearing.
Why is it so cold today?
“H-hey. Hello…” I tried to smile but my lips were shaking, “I see… you tagged a-along.”
“It's okay right?”
“It's totally fine. As long as y-you don't just appear out of nowhere. I was just shocked to see you earlier.”
He smiled to me, and it made my heart feel something. My heart feels ticklish. Was it my heart? Or my stomach? I really can't tell.
He doesn't speak that much. He must be a quiet person.
“Hey, Heeseung!” I called out to him, “this place will be the place where we'll meet everyday when I'm at school. Is that okay?”
His face lightened up a bit and he nodded. Why do I see a kid in him (。•́︿•̀。).
“Every afternoon, after the bell, I'll try to meet up with you here and you can tag along with me as I go home. But it doesn't mean I'll see you everyday. Being a student, it's hard to find a free time.” I explained and he listened to me like a very obedient kid.
I wonder just how old was he when died?
“Is this our secret place?“ he asked.
This place is out in the open but I guess you can consider it as a secret place where… a living person and a ghost will meet everyday.
“Hey, I'm sorry. I'll help you but I don't think it'll be easy, hmkay? It'll take time. But really, I'll help!”
“Thank you,” he scatched the back of his head and looked away. He looked back at me and pointed something above my head.
“What? What is it? Is there a bug? Oh god remove it!”
Oh wait he's a ghost!
I felt another piercing cold brush against the side of my head. I closed my eyes shut, waiting for the cold feeling to finally subside.
“It's just a leaf. It's gone.”
I opened my eyes and now he's in front of me. His smile, was so comforting. His voice, sounded so nice.
If you weren't stuck in this place, would you have become an angel?
For some reasons, my eyes started to tear up.
It's just a leaf… it's gone.
