„You're going to regret that move later, cadet.", captain Levi growled, visibly unhappy about losing a round of hand to hand combat against one of his new cadets. By the time you've purposefully landed your superior in a pile of mud and despite him fighting back pinned his hands above his head and and therefore made him unable to move, a crowd had formed around the two of you. Faint mumbling was audible all throughout said crowd. As you let go of your captains wrists and used your now free hands to wipe the sweat off your forehead and tucked away a couple of stray hairs, you could almost phyiscally feel Levi's angry eyes burn holes into you. He looked pretty good from your point of view from above. A feeling of satisfaction spread all throughout you, as you further inspected your captain's irritated gaze.Your captain breathed out a sigh of relief as he felt your weight shifting away, his eyes still not detaching from your form even as you stood up, practically towering over him. Your head was slightly spinning, which was caused by the exhausting round of sparring you've just had.
The higher ranking wouldn't admit it, but you beating him caused a fair bit of frustration directed at himself to rise up and peaked his interest in you nonetheless, as you were the only one able to do so in quite a long time. Added to that, he didn't know a lot about you besides your name and age since you've only transferred to the survey corps a week ago. Notable to him were also your snarky attitude and disobeying almost every rule; needless to say, the latter also pissed him off quite a bit.
You reached your hand out to your captain, which he reluctantly accepted. „You're quite good at hand to hand combat. May i ask from where you've learned that?" he asked. Despite trying to hide it, the curiousity in his voice remained obvious to you and so did the frustration. A small, almost unnoticeable smile spread across your lips. „A special someone taught me.", you simply responded, indicating that you didn't really want to keep talking about it.
The other members of the survey corps had stopped focusing on the two of you by then and went on to conversations of their own, until Levi announced to them, that training for the day would be done and the only things left were cleaning duty for a couple of cadets and dinner in the mess hall, as it was everyday.
„Hey sister!", you heard a voice from beside you and flinched as you felt your younger brother take you in a headlock. „Geez Jean, you scared me.", you laughed and freed yourself from him. „You did amazing, but i didn't expect anything different", Jean spoke. Too exhausted to say anything back, you just gave him a thankful smile.
Just as Jean was about to drag you away from the training field, you heard your captains voice call out. „I'll see you in my office after dinner.", he said and you just gave him a slight nod and a smile before parting ways with him and finally walking back to your headquarters with Jean.
The cold water hit your sore shoulders and started to soothe your burning back muscles. As you started to relax even more, your head began to wander around and Leví's words came to mind. A small smile unwillingly spread across your lips.
Soon enough, you turned the water off again, quietly humming some made up melodies. Cleaning duty further stressed your already sore muscles even more so the shower was extra refreshing. Still humming, you left the bathroom and put on a clean uniform, switching your blouse for a grey cotton shirt, to make it more comfortable. Skimming over the tiled wall, your eyes stayed glued to the mirror. Sighing, you stepped closer to it and let your hands carefully caress your skin, softly rubbing under your eyes in a poor attempt to get rid of your terribly dark circles. Your eyes wandered down the mirror, further eyeing your own reflection, until you heard someone come into the main bathroom. Quickly, you put on a black cardigan and left.
Dinner went by in a daze. You engaged in a couple of conversations with Jean and his friends with whom you got along surprisingly well; but you didn't bother to bring up too many topics of your own, as you were very tired from fighting your captain. You felt exhausted and comfortable with the atmosphere that was created all around you. Hearing your little brother laugh and get along made you happy. After you finished eating, you lazily let your head fall onto Jean's shoulder, not noticing how you'd slipped into dreamland in a matter of minutes.
