Bent in shame and misery, Dam rattled under the furnace penetrating deep within his skin.

Holding his daughter to his chest, a rattling scream escaped his lips as he fell to his knees, feeling his gum burn with the elongation of his canines.

His breathing uneven as yellow-orange eyes stare into the distance, "what's going on?" Alarmed by the intruder's voice, Dam swung his head towards the man in pajamas, holding his child tightly to his chest as she cried along with her brother and sister.

He heaved painfully as saliva dripped from his jaw, "what's going on?" James asked again, this time taking tentative steps towards him. A step at a time, as though a twig on the floor would make the king snap at him, "you need to place her down," he warned, staring into Dam's half human and half beast eyes as he fought for dominance against his beast.

"Victoria..." His voice was low but the pain they expressed as he fell on both knees, with tears dripping from his eyes; while holding his child close to him and his elongated claws holding the ground underneath him.

"What's going on?" He couldn't help the sheer pain that came with opening his lips as he growled at his beast.

"We're going rogue!" With saliva dripping from the corner of his mouth, his beasts answered. "I think we went too far, our mate has died." He breathed, mist fuming with air as his eyes turned a bright shade of red with no hint of his sclera.

"But it couldn't be helped," Dam gritted, the memories of his mate flooding his head at the sudden loss in their bond. A frown adorned his face as he stared through the darkness of his mind, watching his beast fight against its wild form. "We love her, we do."

"Yes, but the scent of that female blinded our senses. We were still dazed from wrestling against her and couldn't see past ourselves, Dam..." His beast tried making an excuse but even he knew they'd bitten more than they could chew, they were jealous, jealous of the new gain in strength between herself and Corey and that'd left them vulnerable. No excuses could be made, he'd messed up and caused the death of his mate, his fragile mate.

After seeing his eyes dart away from him, James swiftly grabbed the child from his tight grip placing her along with her siblings on the far end of their couch before running to the island with a small bowl in hand as he took water to the brim of it, walking over to a seething Dam he poured the entire content on his face, trying to use that as a possible distraction to get him angry and to shift into his beast instead of battling against the transformation as he was. "Dam," he called for him as he remained stationary in his spot, taking another bowl of water he poured it on him. "Shift, try to shift." As a doctor that'd gone through the same process, he knew what to do, and knowing how painful it was to have almost gone rogue he knew he had to be patient with him considering he was an alpha and Dam wasn't one to take kindly to orders.

After pouring the fourth bowl of water on him and seeing that he wasn't moving at all, he dropped the bowl and strode to him, bending down beside him even though he could feel his alpha power rain on him. He slowly took his head in his hands, taking his head towards him as he whispered, "whatever happened to Victoria I'm sure she would still need you alive to look after your children. Dam." He slowly lifted his head, staring into his dazed eyes as it looked as though he'd lost the battle against his beast. He slapped his left cheek once, then twice, nothing but the cries of the triplets.

Staring at him for a second more, he was lost on what to do; half his face was slowly turning to his beast while his claws dug deep into the ground unresponsive to anything he did.
