Recap: I lifted my lazy butt of my bed and made my way towards the box. Curiosity taking over me, I opened the box and began to lose myself in their beauty all over again. But before that could happen, a note stuck behind the lid caught me off guard as something shined inside.
Paris, France: Evelyn's apartment @ 12:10 am
My fingers itched to move forward, to grasp the piece of paper which lit up my dark room with its bright golden glow. The closer I got to it, the warmer the light felt against my frosty fingers until I touched it, the glow emitting from the paper increased and temporarily blinded me for a few seconds. Once I adjusted to the light, the paper came off from the lid with a delicate pluck!
The seconds slowed.
My breath faltered.
My heartbeat stilled.
Not a single beat was felt. Or heard.
But I was alive.
Sitting on my bed with the card held open in front of me as the words on it slowly begin to levitate. I should scream. I should be afraid. I should throw it away. I should tremble but instead I was lost in its magic. Soon the words from the old lady's words began to swim in and my head tilted up with my lips twisted in a pout as I tried to recall the meaning behind her words...
Flashback
The abandoned shop from earlier today
"These shoes aren't any ordinary pair of shoes. They chose their own owner to tame them." She spoke in monotone.
"What do you mean by that?" I responded with the same level of enthusiasm
"You'll understand soon that these are not any ordinary pair of shoes but are a vessel for something too powerful for this mundane world." I drifted my gaze towards the box of shoes to take in the information the old lady threw at me and when I looked back, she was not there. She disappeared into thin air with no sign of her existence.
End of flashback
The ink which now levitated had settled on the rough but soft paper. Now the paper not only holds strokes of ink, but ink that meant something. It was something out a fairytale. What an irony! I smiled at myself thinking about how absurd the idea of fairytales used to be to me. I never believed in 'knights in shining armor' who would come to my rescue or some corny romance which would eventually become my happily ever after! Mainly because I never felt that I would ever get to experience what it was like to have a knight coming to rescue me from my mother or a charming prince who would search every corner of the world to find his 'true one' that would fit in the glass slipper. Reality had kept me way too occupied to let me indulge in such fantasies. But seeing such illusions made me question my beliefs and made me wonder if I had really crossed the nonexistent line between imagination and reality.
I stared hard at the paper in front of me, in hopes of making sense of it, but all seemed to go in vain when she hit square one repeatedly. What a pain in the butt.
Don't trust anyone, for they are neither friends nor foes.
But do trust the ones,
Who steals the unseen,
Who steals with a glimpse,
Who steals in broad daylight,
Soon my brain gave up and I fell into deep slumber, dreaming about how I would enjoy the next two free days before the rehearsals begin.
