The few days after the confrontation with Tooru were... awkward. You two tried to not make it obvious that you were avoiding each other, but you were avoiding each other. It bothered you a little, but you were firm in believing that you should know who this girl is.
Anyway, another Friday night rolled around. The apartment was quiet until you heard the front door open and close; presumably by Tooru. It got to you a little bit, but you weren't gonna let it ruin your night. You picked up your phone, ready to call Kuroo, when that sweet, silver-haired boy's faced popped into your mind.
You made sure to keep in touch with Suga, but life worked in funny ways and you haven't been able to see him since he came over to your apartment that night. You were going to text him, but a phone call invitation felt better for some reason.
Suga picked up after 3 rings.
"Hello?" His voice rang from the other side of the phone. Your palms were slick with sweat; God, you were hoping he wasn't busy.
"Hey, Suga." you squeaked. Real smooth.
"Oh, hey, [Y/N]. What's up?" his voice picked up a little when he said your name.
"I was wondering if you wanted to hang out tonight? Um, we haven't hung out since you stopped at my place a while ago, so..." you trailed off, biting your lip.
"Oh, I see. You miss me." Suga chuckled, and you almost choked. Did he really just say that? Oh my God, this should've just been a text message.
Your face burned and you were eternally grateful to whatever higher (or not higher) power you believed in that you were not face to face with this boy.
"I'm kidding!" he laughed. "Lucky for you, I just finished up my homework. What do you have in mind?"
"I honestly didn't think I was gonna get this far," you admitted sheepishly. "Maybe some food and drinks?"
"Oh, perfect, I'm starving. I'll meet you at your place." you agreed and hung up the phone.
You sat on your bed for a moment. You weren't nervous to see Suga; you were excited. Hold on, was this a date? You shook your head.
Let's not get too carried away.

You met Suga outside your apartment building, the cold air tickled your nose as you walked down the stairs to the boy waiting for you.
"Hope you didn't wait long." you said, smiling wide.
"Never." Suga replied, smiling back.
You let him lead the way to the closest restaurant to campus; about a ten minute walk. You two talked and caught up, but it fell silent about halfway through the walk. It wasn't a weird silence, just comfortable. You liked the feeling of Suga being by your side.
Your mind quickly flashed to Tooru's face, but you shook your head to erase the thought. You wanted to have fun tonight and not focus on your roommate for just one night.
The restaurant was a little busy, but it was a Friday night. Still, you two were able to get a table. You were finally able to sit and relax after putting your orders in.
"So, this was a nice surprise." Suga said, settling into his seat.
"Maybe you were right," you said. "I missed you." you shrugged nonchalantly. You didn't know where this new-found-but-lost courage came from, but you were happy you had it back.
Suga smiled.
"Don't tease me, [Y/N]." he said.
"I'm hurt. I did want to see you, Suga." you placed your hand over your heart.
Suga leaned forward in his chair, resting on his elbows. He waved his hand dismissively.
"I'm just messing with you. I'm glad you called." Then, as if he had super human speed, his eyes checked your empty hand resting on the table before wrapping it in his own.
Sugawara Koushi's hand was soft and warm, but it didn't feel familiar at all. This hand wrapped around yours wasn't the same hand from over a year-and-a-half-ago, and it was foolish of you to think otherwise. However, you couldn't explain what the unfamiliarity was. You could just feel it.
Either way, you were happy to be there, in that exact moment.
"Suga-"
Suga shook his head and started before you could finish.
"Let's not talk about it right now," he said. "I know I probably shouldn't be here, but I'm not really thinking about it." you knew he didn't mean it in a hurtful way; it was true. You were lucky to be there with him.
You nodded in agreement and smiled, enjoying this moment that probably shouldn't be happening, but you weren't going to stop it either. But that didn't mean it wasn't going to end.
As if whatever higher (or not higher) power you believed in were purposely mocking you, a certain chocolate haired boy caught your eye when you looked over Suga's shoulder as he walked into the restaurant.
Your heart skipped a beat as a couple of his friends followed behind him into the restaurant. Tooru was getting close to passing your table, but he didn't seem to notice you yet.
You almost pulled your hand away, but decided against it. This moment wasn't supposed to be happening anyway; you weren't going to ruin it.
Finally, he noticed you.Tooru's eyes went wide for a second when they met yours, but then he turned back to his usual self. His eyes were still locked on yours as he grazed his fingertips across the edge of the tabletop, a smirk on his face.
"See you at home, [Y/N]." he said loud enough for both you and Suga to hear. The warmth from your hand dissipated as you stared past Suga's shoulder, past the store window... You just stared.
You snapped yourself back into focus. You met Suga's brown eyes and your heart ached. If he was hurt he didn't let it show. He just kind of looked at you.
"[Y/N]," he started, almost scoffing. "I... don't really know what to say. I mean, I guess I'm not surprised that you had a guy roommate, but..." Suga trailed off, shaking his head.
"It had to be him?"
Your eyes stung but the tears wouldn't fall.
"Suga-"
"You know, I probably could've gotten past the fact that you've already cheated on me. I was willing to do that. But you're still lying to me." Suga took a deep breath.
"Come on, I'll walk you home."
