Chapter 14

Y/N's POV.

We make it to the top of the building as we walk in pairs towards the toppled billboard that lead to the overpass.

David and Javi were ahead of us with Gabe and Kate behind them and me and Clem at the back.

Y/N: After we take back Richmond, you're gonna go see Dr. Lingard?

Clementine: Yeah, I still have to ask him about where AJ is right now. If he is alive.

Y/N: Trust me, he's still out there, and he probably misses you too.

Clementine: I know, but, what if, he's dead?

Clementine stop walking as I stop a bit in front of her and turn around.

Y/N: What do you mean? It's obvious that the kid is alive, David and Lingard said so.

Clementine: I know, Y/N. But, what if where he is at got attacked? And he got killed?

She then starts the cry.

Clementine: Ever since he was born, I took care of him, watched over him with Kenny. I promised his parents that I would take care of him with my life. But, I failed them. I wasn't a good mom, a good protector, or anything. I'm just a little girl, a pathetic one.

I then walk closer to her and hold both of her shoulders.

Y/N: Clem, look at me.

She keeps crying while looking down.

Y/N: Clementine!

She slowly looks up with tears still in her eyes.

Y/N: It's not about good, great or bad. You took care of him didn't you?

She nods.

Y/N: You did everything to feed him, right?

She nods again.

Y/N: And lastly, you protected him with your life?

Clementine: Ye-yeah.

Y/N: Then that's more than enough. Francine once told me that parenting is not about being good or bad, it's about doing your best. And you did your best. So stop sobbing over you not being a good mom or protector. Because you are.

She them starts to calm down a bit. She then immediately wraps her arms around me and cries into my chest.

I then hesitantly place my hand on her back and started rubbing it while rocking her back and forth.

Y/N: it's okay, Clem. Just let it all out.

I turn around and see David, Javi and Kate smiling while Gabe looked a little drowsy for some reason.

After a minute of her crying, she lets go of me and I stop rubbing her back.

Y/N: You okay now?

Clementine: Yeah, thanks for that, really. That was nice of you. And uh, sorry. For that.

She points at my chest all wet from her tears.

Y/N: It's alright, I can always look for a new top.

Clementine: it, kinda felt nice too.

She then notices what she said and looks away blushing.

Clementine: I-I mean.....

I then smile.

Y/N: It's alright. I just wanted to help you, and I did. So let's go to that water tower and save Richmond then i'll go with you to Lingard. Cool.
