Although she was very powerful, she was the most wonderful person in my life. The only woman who truly loved and understood me.

Memories of her teaching me and playing tag in the garden came back to me. I thought I put those memories to rest a long time ago. Father said it would help erase the pain.

"Forget about the people who have caused you pain, and you won't hurt anymore. It's the process in the grieving cycle, fiule."

I scoffed at the conversation we had a few weeks after mom's closed casket funeral.

I thought he was doing what was in the best interests of his family. But, even after the death of someone he was supposed to love, he still couldn't change. Instead, he got with mom's best friend.

Paige turned out to be just ask sick as father was. I wanted him to die, but my siblings didn't know why.

"We're not killing him, Rowan," Cassius said for the umpteenth time tonight.

We blew off the dinner with Cassius since neither of us could keep a secret, and decided to finish looking at what Santee had been spending weeks working on.

"What made you want to start this search in the first place?" he asked me out of the blue.

I continued to watch the movie I put on which made my brother scoff.

I frowned and looked at Cassius who had the remote pointing to the television. "What'd you that for?" I asked him when he paused the movie.

"Why are you not listening?"

I narrowed my eyes at him. "Because I don't want to talk about my mother's death right now, Cass. For once, I don't want to think about it. It's painful."

I always pulled that card when I didn't want to answer his questions. He always asked me questions like that.

"I'm sorry," he said in a low tone as I headed out of the room.

Walking down the stairs, I heard light talking. Before I could bring myself to a stop, I bumped into Colton who was walking out of the kitchen. "The hell are you doing here?" I asked him.

I looked behind him to see Cassia standing behind the counter.

I looked back at him to see his clothes rumpled.

She was only in a nightgown, but her hair was a mess.

"Rowan-"

Without controlling myself, I slammed my fist into Colton's jaw. Cassia screamed and jumped over the counter as he fell back into the wall.

I was ready to land another hit on him when I heard Cassius yell.

I snapped out of my anger, noticing that my sister was in front of me in a cower position.

"Rahat, Cassia," I hissed, shaking my hand at the slight pain.

Cassius turned me around and I felt a sharp sting on my cheek. I balled my fists up at my side. "Creste dracu, Rowan," he growled at me.

I looked at Colton who had his hand on his cheek. "Are you fucking my sister now?" I yelled, ignoring everyone else's anger. walking into the foyer and out of the house.

"We can explain-"

"Don't you dare touch her again," I spat before storming out of the kitchen.

I heard Cassia yelling my name, but I ignored her.

He had no business being with her. I thought I'd made myself clear in high school. After what happened with Scarlett, I didn't trust him with my sister.
