After visiting Dr. Garcia, I decided to focus all of my energy on Santee.
There were two possible reasons. For one, I was thinking that if I ignored my three-and-a-half-week pregnancy, it would go away. And two, if I played a part in making sure my child would entire the world safe and sound, I could redeem my family's toxic cycle of bad of motherhood.
I set up a lunch for us today when I found out that he was here on a business trip for Rowan. How convenient of him to be in the same city as me!
I explained to him that I was alone on vacation. He agreed and said that there were some things he wanted to talk about.
I looked at myself in the mirror to make sure that my outfit was appropriate.
I wore a pair of skinny blue jeans paired with an oversized, brown, lantern sleeve sweater and a pair of boots to match. I pulled my hair into a high ponytail and left a few strands on the sides.
Cassi offered to drive me to the restaurant I was meeting Santee at. I was dreading the ride over. I already knew that she was going to make passive-aggressive comments about my choices as a new mother.
Over the past few days, I learned that she was very protective of her little brother.
She figured out how many days along I was before the first appointment.
"You have unprotected sex, so mother nature bites you in the magar," I remember her saying after Dr. Garcia confirmed that I was three weeks along. "My brother is idiot," she mumbled, hitting her temple with her palm.
I couldn't help but laugh as she continued to ramble.
"And now crazy aunt Cassi must keep secret for three months. I do not lie to brothers," she said in a serious tone.
If she wasn't such a happy and hyperactive person, her thick and aggressive accent would cause me to piss myself. Fortunately, I knew Cassia was only speaking with love for her brothers. There was no way I could be offended.
I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard a knock on my door.
Cassia walked in as I was putting my earrings in my ear. "Effortlessly beautiful," she said, blowing me a kiss.
I smiled and we made our way down the stairs.
Colton wished me good luck from the living room couch as we made our way out the door.
"What is game plan?" Cass asked me once we were on the road.
"I suppose I will just ask questions about his past life. I want to see if he will be honest with me or not first."
"If he is not?" She looked at me with a serious expression.
The way she resembled Rowan right now was terrifying.
When I didn't answer, she spoke up.
"Listen, Scarlett," she said. "I like you very much. I love brother like I love life. I like you together. He is happy then. He is not happy now." She waved a finger in the air as she continued to drive.
I nodded my head. I wouldn't know because I haven't spoken to him in a month.
"I will sit outside while you meet with Mr. Santee," she said.
I looked at her as she sped around the cars. I was glad I wasn't trying to pay attention to Ibiza's beautiful scenery because it would've been a blur.
"That's not necessary," I said. I didn't want her waiting on me for hours just to get the half-truth from someone.
"I like you. I love Rowan. I like you together," she repeated. "You are having baby together. My child too."
