When I opened my eyes, I had to admit, that this bed was fantastic. Could not remember that I had slept this well for a very long time. Possibly for the last time when my mother had been still alive. I yawned in a relaxed manner. The bed was nice and cozy, and it was unbelievable warm beneath the blanket. Isabella lay sleeping in my arms. I smiled happily. We would leave the hotel soon, then get the train and travel to a different part of the United States. Preferably as far away as possible from the Italian mobster, who was holding us tight.
Wait. What?
My eyes widened, then I sniffed thoughtfully. Yes, this was the same masculine scent as back at the hospital. And the strong arm, which was wrapped around Isabella and I, had the typical olive skin color of an Italian. How the heck did he find us? Was it really him? My sleepy brain had trouble processing everything.
Carefully I turned around. Now I lay face to face with him. Thick black lashes got my attention first. His nose looked like he had it broken at least once. A small scar was on his left cheek, just below his eye and pale against his darker skin. Full lips, which looked soft and almost invited me to kiss him. He had a well-groomed three-day beard which accentuated his dangerous aura. This was most likely the moment an ordinary woman would start to scream, kick, and try to run away. But somehow this guy fascinated me. Not only that he had found us this fast. No, instead of waking us up, taking Isabella and most likely killing me, he had sneaked into bed and slept peacefully together with us. Creepy for sure, but cute as well. Nonetheless, I had to get away from him. But how?
As if he had felt my staring, he opened his eyes. First still sleepy, then the gaze of his dark-brown eyes became too intense for me. There was an unspoken threat in his burning gaze. I wanted to flee but could not move a single muscle.
"Papà! You are here with us." Isabella screamed happily behind me, then crawled over me and jumped at this dangerous man. His face turned soft right away, and he cuddled with her, a smile on his lips.
"Get dressed and tell Romano or Lucius, whoever of the two is waiting outside, to get you breakfast. We will drive home soon." His voice was that deep it sent shivers through my whole body. I still wasn't able to move, although he wasn't even looking at me. I waited and watched how my daughter got ready for the day. The sound of the closing door helped me finally to snap out of my trance. I tried to jump out of the bed but was pulled back right away. I landed with my back on his warm hard chest, his strong arms holding me tight.
"Don't even think about running away," he growled at me and stopped all my efforts to free myself from his grip. His warm breath brushed over my shoulder.
"Then answer me one question. Why my daughter? Get a wife and have kids yourself. No need to steal mine." The next moment I found myself with my back on the bed, and he towered above me. I tried to wriggle myself out of his iron grip. Instead of letting me go, he pressed his body closer to mine. His crotch was touching me down there, where I never wanted to feel a guy again. My whole body started to tremble; cold sweat of fear broke out. The guy pushed himself up. His gaze fell onto my chest. No, not really my boobs. He was looking at the scars of the wounds I got at the playground. Then his glance went lower, stopped at my belly.
"Who did this to you?" His voice sounded hoarse. He let my hands go to touch the scars down there. Since I did not answer, he came closer again. "I asked you a question," he growled in my ear. My body had gone cold, and his hot skin burned against mine.
"It is not important. He thinks I am dead anyway," I whispered back.
"Is that guy the reason you are this timid?" His eyes grew a shade darker.
