The following Monday, on the way to school, I saw Matt's brother Tim walk the opposite direction of me, he didn't look himself.
"What's up Tim?"
"Hey Sky," he said without missing a beat.
"Are you ok, you look like you seen something disturbing?"
"I'm fine."
"You sure?"
"Yeah."
"Then why are you on your way from something early in the morning?"
"Just took a walk."
"You got school today-"
"I'm ok Skylar!"
"I know, I believe you. You need anything, I'm here for you and so is Matt ok?"
"Ok."
I left for school.
In the hallway, I usually see John and his girlfriend Jamie make out by his locker but he was there alone, she maybe sick or something so I just went to Mr. Burkewaite's class.
"Jaime has perfect attendance. Is she sick or something?"
"I don't know, haven't heard anything," Maggie said.
"I hope she feels be-"
Matt walked in, he was late.
"Matt, you're late. What's your excuse this time?"
"I had to help my little sister look for her doll."
"Why didn't her mother or father help her?"
"Mother asked me to help, father don't give a shit."
"Language, Matt, class has begun."
We got on with class. On my way to my last class, Layne ran to me.
"Skylar, we are in desperate need of pot man, Matt doesn't feel like going home to get his stash, we're going to Feck's and you're coming with us, come on."
Layne took my hand and we started walking but I stopped.
"Wait, why did you decide to take me?"
"Because I like you, you're cute, you have a nice place to live, I like that in a girl."
That was sweet what Layne said but I don't like him in that kind of way.
Layne's car was an old blue beetle, Matt was in the passenger seat and I was in the back seat.
"Why did you have to bring Skylar?" Matt asked.
"I wanted her to come ok? She's never skipped school before, she needs to experience the life of anarchy man."
"I've been experiencing the life of anarchy since my parent's divorce...but this is new for me."
"Welcome to the world of drug dealing Sky!"
The car stopped in front of a house, Layne turned to me.
"Watch and observe."
We got out of the car, Matt stayed behind with me as Layne walked to the door.
"Feck!" He said while banging.
A grey haired man walked out with a gun. I gasped as Matt held my hand tight.
"It's me Feck, Layne! Don't shoot ok?"
"My God Layne," I whispered.
"Shh," Matt shushed me.
"Won't you, Matt, and your lady friend come in and uh...see Ellie?"
"Oh, we'd love to Feck but we got other things to do you know."
"...Well...how much you want then?"
"Aw come on no dude, I came by to see how you're doing, good ole Feck you know."
Layne chuckled.
"How much you want?"
"Just a couple of joints."
Feck went back in his house, Layne turned and gave us a thumbs up, he walked back out.
"Are guns pointed at em each time?" I asked Matt.
"Almost."
Feck went in and closed the door.
"Yeah I'll see ya, well thanks for the weed."
Layne walked back to us smiling.
"We got em man, let's go."
We got back in the car and rode away.
"Jaime has like fucking perfect attendance and all, she didn't show at school today, it's a record breaker!"
"She maybe sick or something Layne," I said.
"You know the last time I saw her was at a party last night with John."
"Now John showed up today."
"I saw them arguing with each other, she apparently insulted his mom."
"What did she say about her, how much she resembles Miss. Piggy?" Matt asked laughing.
Layne laughed along with him. I saw both of their smiles in the rear view mirror, Matt's smile caught my eye more, after all he is the cute one of the group.
