Shaken Up

I heard the phone ring a couple hours into the evening, I ran to the phone in the living room.

"Hello?"

"Skylar, it's Maggie, meet us down the road from your house, we're in Mike's truck."

"Why, what's up?"

"We're going to the river, there's something the boys wanna show us."

"I'm kinda grounded but I'll sneak out."

"Why did you get grounded?"

"Well, you know Mom and Brad, thinking school is more important than fun...so."

"Oh, this is kinda serious, we gotta go down there."

"Ok...I'll see you in a few minutes, bye."

We hung up. As I was about to go up the stairs back to my room, Mom caught me.

"Who was that on the phone?"

"Those telemarketers, you know, wanted our credit card number and stuff," I lied.

She nodded and left. When she was gone, I went out the door.

I was running about half a mile until I saw Mike's truck with all my friends in it.

"Slow down Speedy Gonzales!" Layne shouted smiling.

I stopped to catch my breath as everyone giggled.

"We're we going?" I asked after recovering.

"To the river."

"Why?"

"Didn't Maggie tell you?"

"She told me were going to the river because you boys have something to show us girls."

"...Yeah, we do."

I jumped in the truck, Mike driving, John in the passenger seat, and the rest of us in the back. As we got close to the river, I noticed Matt looking nervous on edge or something.

"You ok Matt, you look like you're about to puke some shit out man?"

He got out of his daze and looked at me.

"Uh...yeah I'm ok."

"Ok."

We pulled into where the river was, got out of the truck, and we followed John to a part of the river. A body of a naked dead girl...Jaime!?

"Oh. My. Fucking. John!" Maggie said.

I felt sick to my stomach! I noticed a mark on her neck, I bent down to take a closer look while shaking.

"Skylar, what're you doing?" Maggie asked.

"There's a mark on her neck."

I got a look at the other side of her neck, a mark just like it. I then noticed they're bruises on both sides of her neck.

"She's got bruises on both sides of her neck, that means she's been choked to death. John...you were right about earlier, you killed her! Why!?"

"She talked shit about my mom, I had to do it, I had to."

"Why did you have to kill her!?" Maggie asked.

"I...I...I had to kill her, I love my mom too much, things just got out of hand between us. Please don't tell anyone, we'll find a way to hide the body."

"We have to go to the police!" Maggie said.

"No, if you guys are my friends, you wouldn't fink on me."
