subtle self deprecation ahead.

THE MIRROR she's using is large—about a meter in length. It's edges are dressed in thick hazel carved wood. It still appears to be new. She and Alice got it when they moved here last semester. It fell backwards once but it didn't crack. There's a tiny crack though, on the wood at the right vertix. It's a small crack, unnoticeable, insignificant and the only reason she sees it is because she knows it's there and because she's currently staring at it.

She wonders if there are insignificant experiences which happen to people for the mere reason of leaving a deep rooted scar but never teach a lesson. They never mold people into better versions of themselves. They just happen. For a reason, maybe but for a lesson, hardly.

What significance did what she went through hold? What lesson was she supposed to learn from that experience? That her voice didn't matter? That she will always be the weakling —the smaller person?  That she will always be weak?

She sighs, willing the memories to go away and then turns back to stare at Alice who is still struggling to find clothes to wear. Hope pads to her bed where she sits down, crossing the right leg over the left and holding up her chin with her right hand.

Alice holds up a bottle green full neck with cut hands and a maroon flowy skirt that approximately reaches just above her knees. She stares at the outfits for a while and sighs, groaning irritably before she ruffles through her clothes once again, throwing outfit after outfit on her bed which is just across Hope's.

"Mom said hi," Hope decides to ease her mind.

Alice stops to look at Hope. She places her hands on her waist and a smile crawls to her lips. "Aw, how's she doing? How's your sis and bro?"

"All good," Hope shrugs.

Alice continues to stare down at her clothes with a frown now tainting her face, "You know, sometimes I decide to dress up but then I take a trip down my closet and I begin to take back that decision. I should just stick to casual."

"The bottle green and maroon skirt will look exquisite on you," Hope offers.

"Are you positive?"

"With skin like yours, anything would look good on you." Hope affirms.

"What about shoes?"

"Just wear the jet black flat ankle boots."

"Thank you." Alice says smiling. She turns to go to the bathroom but stops at the door. She glances back at Hope, smiling crookedly. "You know, you should try colors too."

"I'm darker than you, colors don't go well with my complexion."

Alice turns wholly to look at Hope. She bites her bottom lip as if in thought and then when she starts to speak, she smiles demurely. "It's not about your complexion, it's about your confidence. Besides, you decide which colors you want to wear." She says, "Also, your dress—"
