Amanda's POV

I pretended to get busy with my lobster cheese omelet.

"Are you sure you don't wanna talk about it?" Neen was being persistent. "Do you know one or both of those two guys who just walked in? Is one of them an ex of yours?"

"How about I ask why you are so persistent on knowing if one of them is my ex?" I shot back at her.

"Because I need to know all about someone before I get romantically involved with her," she replied, watching closely what my reaction would be.

She timed her revelation for just when I had taken a big sip from my tea.

Of course I spat it all over the table and started coughing loudly.

My cough must have alerted Saint because suddenly I saw him standing up from his spot at the secluded corner table and was walking purposefully towards me.

He grabbed my wrist saying urgently in a low tone, "We need to talk."

"So I was right, that's your ex," Neen said loud enough for Saint to hear.

Saint turned to Neen saying, "No, I am not her ex, not that it's any of your business."

"Okay," said Neen with a bright smile, "whatever you say."

I obediently stood up and let Saint guide me outside the establishment. The cold sea breeze hit my face and even though the sea was calm I felt some sea spray hit my cheeks or it could have been just my imagination.

He immediately turned to me the moment we were out of earshot of anyone.

"It's not what you're thinking," he said, looking at me in all seriousness.

"I wasn't thinking anything," I denied his accusation.

"Oh yeah? So why did you spit out your tea and cough continuously the moment you saw me with Joss?" he countered.

"Oh, is that his name? Joss?"

"Shit," I heard him say under his breath. He must have regretted revealing his extra marital fling's name to me.

"Look here," I said, "I didn't spit out my tea because of seeing you here. I spat it out because..."

I stopped myself just in time from revealing what was going on between me and Neen. Saint didn't need to know about my personal affairs.

"You spat it out because what?" he prompted me when I stopped talking.

"Because I did not agree with the ridiculous stuff that my companion at my table was telling me," I said.

Saint looked at me like he did not believe what I just told him.

"It doesn't matter if you're lying to me or not," he said after a brief pause. "But I need you to know that I am not here having an extra marital affair with anyone. Joss and I are here for business purposes."

It was my turn to look at him like I did not believe what he had just said.

"I swear, that's the truth, the whole truth and nothing but," he insisted.

He was about to say something more when we were interrupted by Neen who had come to follow me outside the establishment.

"If he really isn't your ex, what's taking you so long to come back to the table?" she asked in an accusatory tone.

"Let's go back inside," I said to Neen.

"Wait," Saint pleaded, grabbing my wrist. "Promise you won't breathe a word of this to Perth?"

"I won't," I promised and Saint let go of my wrist.

"So is it Perth or is it Saint who is your ex?" Neen asked the moment we were both seated again at our table.

"Jeez Louise," I exclaimed. "You don't miss a thing, do you?"

"I have been trained to be a sharp listener and sharp observer. That's just one of the secrets to running a business successfully," she said with a wink and a smile.

What an attractive smile and an alluring face. And I could tell that she was smart as a whip as well. It was so easy to fall for someone like her.
