I hated how it looked to see her walk away from me. When I left all those months ago, I had been the one walking away, leaving her behind, and now I knew how she felt to see me walk away. I watched her all the way to her table of friends. She slid in and I saw her blink, keeping her eyes closed for an extra second longer than necessary and when she opened them again her face was devoid of any interaction we had just had and she laughed along with her friends as if nothing mattered and I wasn’t a few feet away. My heart ached. I didn’t know this was what it was going to feel like when I saw her again for the first time in a long time.

When I got home from the airport a few hours earlier, I had called Hunter right away. Sophie told me she was going to the bar and I knew Jade would be with her. They were like Bonnie and Clyde those two; wreaking havoc wherever they went.

“Hey man” Hunter said as soon as I called.

“Hey. Pick me up” I said, “We’re going to the club.”

“Is this about Jade?” he asked.  I was about to mumble an answer when he answered his own question “Of course it is. It always is.”

“I haven’t seen her since last August.” I ran my fingers through my hair pulling on the ends; anxiety filling my body at the thought of seeing her tonight.

He sighed “She’s moved on man.”

“What are you talking about?” I asked checking my reflection in the mirror. I unbuttoned a few of my shirt buttons and then re-buttoned them. Then I decided to change my shirt altogether. Shit, I was acting like a girl. Jade wouldn’t care what shirt I was wearing. She’d care about seeing me.

“I’ve been home for weeks and you’ve been miles away. I know what goes on around here. Jade has been with a shitload of guys since you left.”

“Damn it” I said taking deep breaths as images of her with other guys clouded my vision and jealousy came over me. The fact that I knew I had no right to be jealous only made it worse. After all, I had been the one who got up and left, not her.

“She’s been with Tyler” Hunter said. “If we go, you’re going to see her with him. Are you sure you wanna see that?” he asked.

I could tell by the pity in his voice that he had seen them together firsthand. I already knew it wasn’t something I wanted to see but if I wanted to talk to her, I would have to.                                                                                                                                                    “I need to talk to her.” I wasn’t sure what I would say but it was going to be something along the lines of I’m a mess without you.
