Josh's POV
"So will these tests require moving?" I ask Dr. O'Crystal
"You still not feeling too well?" He asks
"Not really, no" I admit
"Well don't worry we're just doing a blood test and an ultrasound right now"
"Right now?" I question confused
"Yah we'll need to do a CT scan and a Biopsy but well do that later when your feeling better"
"Thank you" I sigh and he laughs lightly
"Hey, I'm looking out for you" he grasps and squeezes my shoulder reassuringly
We get into one of the many examination rooms. I stand up on my wobbly legs to get on the bed but of course my stomach flips and I have to throw up yet again! Luckily O'Crystal got a bowl inside and I didn't get it anywhere.
"Sorry" I say when I finish
"Nah don't be it's alright." he helps me on the table and I sit on the end of it. Uhg, I'm so tired you'd think I just ran a marathon and I'll I want to do is throw up and sleep.
Dr. O'Crystal goes over to the counter to the left of me and that's getting stuff put together on a tray.
"When was the last time you ate something?" He asks turning slightly toward me
"Um..yesterday when you gave me crackers but I only had a few cause they came back up" he turns around and places the tray he made up on a table then wheels the table in front of me and sits on a chair on facing me
"Can I have your arm" I nod and rest my elbow on the table "so you didn't eat anything this morning?"
"No, the nurses said it was too soon to start eating" he uses his glove covered hands to roll my sweatshirt, that I have on over my hospital gown, up to my bicep
"Okay, well when you get back to your room, I'll get you something, and hopefully you can keep it down" he suggests and I nod in agreement "let's hope I can keep it down" I say exasperated
He smiles sympathetically at me while he ties really tightly a rubber and thing around my upper arm "little pinch" he says then hand the needle into my vain and a gasp a little because it happened much quicker then the nurses usually do it. he attached a tube the needle and attached the tube to a vial that quickly filled with dark red blood.
"So how are you feeling, josh? I mea I know physically how you are, obviously, but trust me I know this is a lot to taken at only 17 and I'm sure girls around the world are freaking out over you" I was a little thrown off. he sounded genuinely concerned and I don't I didn't think doctors cared too much about their patients mental stability, but I still willingly open up to him thinking maybe he could give me a little advise or something
"Well um I'm okay" I start "I guess it doesn't feel real, well no it definitely feels real but I mean aside from being so sick I don't feel like I have cancer just like I've got a virus not a disease. you know?" He nods understanding "but I'm trying to be strong to for my family and not get sick around them cause I want them to feel like I don't have cancer too. I just don't like worrying them"
Dr. O'Crystal looks into my eyes "I know exactly what you mean, as the oldest you always want to protect your family from anything that hurts them, but you can't protect them from everything" he then goes back to my arm and takes they stuff off havering gotten enough blood "and sometimes they feel pain even though you tried to stop it. it's okay to let them share some of your pain, josh, cause that's the only way they can help is by taking some if your pain upon them"
