I paved the hospital floors as my heart thumped with each intake of breath. I was worried for him and I was scared for him. The doctors have yet to tell me anything and I am here in the lobby, waiting to see if the man I love is alright.

It's been almost an hour and I couldn't stay still. Running my hands through my hair in frustration, I was just about to go up to the receptionist desk when a man in a white lab coat style came out and called Rick's name.

I walked over to him and he looked down at me with a raised brow. "Sister?"

I sighed. Of course they are going to play 'what relative you are.' "I'm all the family he has." I lied, hoping it was convincing.

The doctor sighed. "He's stable. Nothing serious was punctured which makes him every lucky to be alive right now."

Relief filled me. "When can I see him?"

"If you'd follow me." The doctor nods, I followed. I kept my distance as I watched him carefully. Something was off. I could feel it. I kept my hands behind me, ready to pull out my gun at any moment.

Instead of leading me to the elevator, we went to the door that lead to the stairs. Silence hovered as we walked up the steps. We didn't make it as far as another case when he suddenly turns with a syringe in his hand, ready to stick me with it. I grabbed his hand, twisting his arm and pinning him to the wall.

"Who sent you?!" I snapped.

He chuckles but I found nothing amusing about this. "The name is Sean Palvino. Captain has been looking for you."

My heart stopped, I pulled back and kept my gun in my hold. I stared at him and he patted the wrinkles I caused down. Fuck I'm screwed.

Maybe if.....

"Look, I don't know who you are but I don't know-"

"Don't try to act like you don't know what I'm talking about." He cuts me off before continuing. "You've been off the grid for sometime, Officer."

I released a shaky breath. "I'm working."

He scoffs. "Yeah, right. You've been fraternizing with the enemy and you have some sort of feelings for a killer in the mix. The captain wants you pack your things and go back. You might be lucky to keep your job if you leave now."

"I can't just leave." I say. I couldn't. Not now.

"If you're concerned about your little boyfriend, I ensure you that he is still breathing. As far as your relationship with him, it needs to end ASAP." His tone serious.
