CARTER
She killed for the first time.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't impressed with her. But there was another side that worried about what the next few days will look like.
The nightmares, the lack of sleep, not wanting to eat, and possibly reflecting over and over.
Tiana didn't care about that. Most of her focus was on finding our baby girl and with all this chaos around us, I was beginning to worry that we won't find her in time.
The shooting and shouting fades the further we walked to the back. I make sure she's behind me with each passing minute. My hand slips in hers, needing her impossibly closed do me while we round the corner.
Voices muffled as we stop mere feet away from what Ace described to be my father's office. The door was cracked and relief washes over me when I see my daughter sleep in a car seat. I see a woman with tears falling down her face while my father barked orders, rushing around.
"Fucking stupid bitch. Hurry up!" He spits angrily.
Swiftly turning back to Tiana, the worry on her face never fades. She looks up at me, waiting for me to tell her.
"I see her."
Relief washes over her face and she is about to round me, not caring about the two guards that lingered in the halls. Quickly, I grab her waist and pull her back.
"Carter-"
"Just wait."
She frowns, the impatience in her beautiful features makes things more difficult. I know Tiana doesn't want to wait and get Cariana but one wrong move and we might not get this chance again.
Everything had to be followed.
"We are not going to waste this chance." She whispers sharply at me and my hold on her tightens.
"And we're not going to, Tiana. Just wait here."
"Standing here and doing nothing is not an option, Carter. I made that very clear."
Sighing in frustration, I grab her chin, forcing her to look up at me. Her eyes were wild, panicked. I understood but I wasn't going to let her out-of-mind state take control of her.
Tiana's sanity was checked out and I didn't blame anyone but the fucking bastard she had to deal with. Though I was glad she ended the traitorous son of a bitch off, I didn't like the knowledge of knowing how severely it was going to affect her.
It was already beginning to.
"Baby, relax."
She tenses, her eyes flickering wildly across my face before a soft exhale escapes past her lips. Her eyes well with tears and they close.
"I-I'm sorry. I'm just..." As if coming to terms with how she was acting.
"Trust me?" I question causing her to open her eyes.
She looks at me, a sincere look on her face. "Yes," She breathes, the exhaustion evident in her voice. "I trust you."
I lean forward, placing a chaste kiss on her forehead. "I'll shoot and you get to the office. Do you hear me?"
"Yes." She breathes before slumping against the wall, waiting.
After taking a couple of seconds to make sure she was going to listen, I didn't waste any more time. I rounded the corner and began shooting. Bullet piercing skin and I moved quickly to avoid getting hit. The thumping sounds of their bodies hitting the ground was familiar to my ears.
