Chapter Sixteen- Auditions & Rehearsals

A/N: For all you unaware non-theatre kids, an understudy is a backup person in case the original actor for the role is sick or injured and can't perform that night. This term will be useful to know throughout this chapter.

My heart started thumping inside my chest as I walked to the Theatre of Tales. Something inside me says that I shouldn't go there, and I tried to ignore that instinct, it was still a lingering feeling.

"Hey Rose, wanna skip and hide in our dorm? I'm not sure if I wanna be a part of this lame play." I asked Rose.

But Rose, being the goody-two-shoes that she is, just responded saying "I think we should go. First of all, its compulsory, and second of all, I think it would be a good bonding experience for all of us."

Yena just rolled her eyes and said: "Let's just go and we can sign up for lighting or sound or something." 

I reluctantly said, "Alright, fine." 

We all then walked to the Theatre of Tales. The first thing I noticed was Scarlet standing on stage, looking like she was ready to start her audition. "I wanna audition as Sophie!" she yelled. Dean Sophie just rolled her eyes. Sophie then grabbed the nearest microphone and said: "Alright, everyone! Everyone who wants to be part of the main cast needs to stand on stage. Everyone else who wants to be either supporting cast, chorus, or crew needs to stay seated."

Very few people got up on stage, only around 15-20 people, as opposed to the 200 or so students who stayed seated. Emmalyn and her posse, of course, bounded up on stage, as well as Jocelyn, Mia, Naomi, Miranda, some Everboys I didn't know, Alex, Oliver, and a handful of Nevers. 

Sophie then ordered them to stand in the line. Sophie took one look at Naomi and put a big sticker that said Sophie on Naomi's arm. Scarlet looked furious. Scarlet got a sticker that said Sophie understudy on her arm, Emmalyn with her blonde hair, got assigned Beatrix, Jocelyn with her dark curls and smooth brown skin got Reena, Keira with her strawberry blonde hair Millicent, and Milla Beatrix understudy. Sophie seemed proud with her work, with Scarlet was upset. "I wanna be Sophie in the play!" Scarlet yelled like a spoiled brat.

Sophie just then turned to her and said "We will act out a scene as the assigned characters to see what works best. We may also change a few things here and there."

Miranda, with her gorgeous black hair and brown eyes, looking like the epitome of cuteness got assigned Kiko. Alex got Tedros, Oliver Chaddick, some random Everboy Tedros understudy. A bunch more people got assigned roles. Nearly all the main roles were filled aside from Agatha's role. "I could be Agatha!" piped up Mia.

Dean Sophie, however, wasn't convinced. Sophie then stared at me. "She can be Agatha. Yeah, I think that would be perfect." 

I shrunk in my seat. There was no way I was doing this. I could potentially be humiliated. But Dean Sophie kept staring at me with her icy cold glare. 

I shrunk in my seat. But Dean Sophie kept staring at me. I hesitantly walked up to the stage and then I walked up the short flight of stairs to the top of the stage. Yena, with her assigned role being Hester understudy, glared at Harriet who got assigned Hester. 

"Ok everyone!" smiled Sophie. "A lot of lines have been changed from the original but I want you to read out your lines from the script." 

She then passed out scripts and then everyone started reading. 

I read out my line "I'll never be as pretty as my best friend Sophie! And I hate princes!"

Naomi then said "Oh hey, you may say that now, but watch out when you run off with my handsome princely crush in the future!"
