Connie smiled and her heart skipped a beat as she looked around the mini paradise. The trees were various bright shades of greens and yellows, some even with flowers. The air was crisp with the salt of the ocean and it ran it's way over her skin like a caress, wrapping her in heavy warmth.

She anchored the skiff Yellowtail let her borrow and took a deep breath.

CAW!!

Connie jumped in surprise, drawing her sword and dropping into a fighting stance....

Only to come face to face with a toucan.

"Oh!" Connie laughed and grabbed her backpack, breaking out a protein bar and giving the colorful bird a tiny piece. "Here you go." She crooned and ran her finger over it's head.

The bird cooed happily and perched on an eye level branch.

"We should get started with a shelter first." She looked around and pulled out her notebook, trying to write down any interesting landmarks. "It looks like there's a down turned tree over there..." She paused, trying to think. "What should I call you?"

The bird stared at her, seemingly as stumped as she was.

"Ansel." The bird cocked it's head. "It means 'protector'." She explained, picking up a rotting tree and propping it up against Palm. "Wanna come with me and find more so we can make a lean to?"

The bird cooed and fluttered onto her shoulder. "Okay then. I guess that's a yes." She giggled and grabbed her sword.

Steven crouched low, trying to stay as quiet as possible. He didn't trust that damn bird. It was friendly.... Too friendly. He narrowed his eyes and slid back into the darkness.
