Steven shot up in a cold sweat.

His chest heaved and he looked around. The world was still dark and thick feeling. It must still be night. He looked down at his hands and frowned. Why did everything feel so... distant. Steven raises his eyes to see pinkish outlines of trees and bushes.

I'm back here again. In that psychicose state.

But why?

He stood up and an ear splitting wail shook his entire being causing him to shrink into himself. "AUGGGGH!!" He covered his ears and grimaced in pain.

When he opened his eyes again, and he saw Connie, steering the little skiff and a shadowy man lurked behind her.

Ansel began squawking and chittering as the man neared the oblivious Connie.

"Too late, Universe." The figure raised the object and just before he hit her in the head, he blinked, and the vision was gone.

"CONNIIIIEEEE!" He fell back into his body and gasped. Oh thank Shards. It was just a dream. He settled back onto the ground and looked up at the hot noon sun.

Who was that... that shadow? And why did it want to hurt her?

He chewed thoughtfully on a granola bar. She had told that parakeet that they would head seaside today and begin to set sail for home. Finishing off the last of the bar, he bubbled his trash and sent it home.

Noon.

Crap! Connie gets up early, he knows that! "Dammit!" He murmured under his breath.

A low chuckle reverberated from behind him.
Steven nearly jumped out of his skin, taking a deep breath to steady his heart. While he searched every visible place for an intruder.

Squawk chit chit chit!

The bird sounded... scared. Just like in my... oh god no. Nononono!!!

Without a moments hesitation Steven ran through the forest as he called out for Connie, trying to listen to the sounds of her ship and the laughing of the mystery man so they would lead him to her.

Shrubs and greenery smacked him in the face repeatedly, scratching and bruising him.

Slowly, the sound of something blunt hitting a body and the crumpling of aforementioned body rang through the area. Pushing and struggling to get past the acclamations of newly downed trees, Steven summoned his sword and whistled for Lion.

In an instant Lion cake charging through a portal and let Steven hop on.

"Take me to Connie."

This mission ends now.

And with that they charged into the backside of the the shadow figure on the ship.

Sorry this is so short. I was having a hard time writing this bc I didn't know how I wanted this to pan out.
