Chapter 4:
The EncounterAnna
"Hans, can I talk to you for a second?" I asked, grabbing his arm.
He sighed and turned to look at me. "What? Are you here to pay for the cleaning of my clothes that you vomited on?"
My heart dropped. Why was he so rude? "No. Actually, I wanted to apologize for last night. I'm allergic to the food there, that's why I... You know." I explained, leaving out the details.
Hans raised his eyebrows. "You're allergic to the food there?"
"Yeah... I'm sorry I didn't tell you." I waited for his response.
"You know what Anna, just forget about it. I don't care. You wanna throw up on guys you go out with? Fine with me. I'm just not gonna be one of them." He folded his arms and walked away.
I stood in the hallway, astonished. I thought Punzie said he would understand! Jeez, you throw up on a guy and suddenly you've killed his whole family.
I took my math textbook out of my locker and walked sadly to class.
Jack
I realized it was going to get dark soon, and I needed to find a place to stay permanantely. I flew down to the nearest house I could find without a car in the driveway. I flew down the chimney- luckily this one barely had any ash.
I landed in the living room of the house. It was pretty neat. I looked at the pictures placed on a long table. In most of the pictures, there was a small, blue eyed girl smiling at the camera. I looked intently at the girl. Her hair was strawberry blonde, with one white streak on the side. It was strange, yet it intrigued me at the same time. As I looked at the pictures further to the right of the table, the girl began to grow older. Fianlly, the very last pictures showed her as a teenager- basically my age.
I couldn't help but stare at her. She was always smiling or laughing in her pictures. I was so busy staring at the pictures that I didn't hear a car engine coming from outisde. I sudenly turned to see a car coming in. I ran over to the garage and hid behind some bikes.
A car drove into the garage. I heard a door open, and I peaked through the tires of the bikes. I saw a woman with light blonde hair come out of the car.
"So, how did it go today?" She asked. I hear another car door open.
"It was... Okay I guess." From what I could hear, it was the voice of a girl. I could only see the woman thorugh the tires.
"Are you finally going to tell me what happened last night?" The woman asked, closing the door.
"I don't know. I really don't want to talk about it." I heard the other car door close.
"I'm your aunt, you can tell me anything!" The woman said, walking towards the garage door.
"I know. It's not that. I just want to forget about it, okay?" The girl asked.
I heard the garage door close. Great, I just had to pick the house where everything's a drama. Good going, Jack.
Anna
I dropped my backpack on the floor and layed down on my bed. I took out my phone, and I noticed that Hans had erased the post from Instagram. Does that mean he wasn't mad at me anymore? He seemed pretty mad today when we talked. Maybe Mer was right. It was already starting to blow over.
I looked over in the hallway. Aunt Ingrid was calmy reading a book at her bed. I felt bad that she didn't know, I just didn't want her to bother me about it, or talk to Hans or something.
Maybe I should tell her. I closed the door behind me and stepped into the hallway. I was walking over when I heard a loud sound come from downstairs. What was that?
I looked over at Aunt Ingrid, but she didn't hear because her TV was on. Instead of bothering her about it, I went downstairs to check for myself.
I checked everywhere downstairs, but there was nothing that could have caused that noise. Everything was intact.
But then what was that sound?
Jack
I had stood up to find a spot in the garage where I could sleep comfortably, but in the process I accidentally knocked over the bikes. There was a loud crash, and I prayed that no one heard me.
I waited silently for a few minutes, but no one came. I sighed in relief. But when I tried to pick up the bikes again, one of the bike's pedals got stuck in the other's wheel. The bikes slipped from my reach, crashing down once again. There was no where to hide- the bikes were my only hiding spot.
Suddenly, the door swung open, and the lights of the garage turned on. A girl came in, carrying a guitar-type thing above her shoulder. She looked around the room, spotted me, and pointed the guitar thing at me.
I stared at her face. It was the girl from the pictures.
Her blue eyes stared at me intently. "Who are you? What are you doing here? Are you breaking into my house? Because if you are I'm calling the police!"
I stared at her, then remembered she was asking me questions. "Uh... no! Look, I'm not breaking in! Well, I am, but I'm not stealing anything, I promise!" I put my hands up.
Her eyes narrowed at me and she closed the garage door. She walked closer to me, still holding her guitar. "Who are you?"
I looked straight into her eyes and said, "Jack Frost."
"What are you doing here?"
I hesitated. "Look, I wasn't robbing you or anything I-"
"Just answer my questions!" She demanded, bringing the guitar higher above her shoulder.
"Okay... Can you just put the guitar down for a second?" I asked.
She scoffed. "It's a lute."
"Fine! Just put the 'lute' down!"
She rolled her eyes and put the lute down. "Thank you," I said.
"Now tell me, Jack Frost, why are you knocking over bikes in my garage?" She asked.
I thought before answering. "Look, I just needed a place to stay for the night. I don't exactly have a home right now."
She stared at me for a bit. "So, you're homeless and you broke into my house to sleep here?"
"Well, if you put it that way it sounds illegal." I answered, looking down.
"That's because it is!" She looked at my up and down. Yeah, I was barefoot. "Why don't you have a home?" She asked.
What is this, an interrogation? "That's none of your business."
"Yes, it is! You broke into my house! I don't want some dangerous person in my house!"
"So you're willing to have me stay if I'm not dangerous?" I smirked.
"I never said that!" She exclaimed.
"I just need a place to stay! Can't you find kindness in your heart to let me stay for one night?" I asked.
"I would have a lot more kindness if you didn't break in!" She shouted.
"I know but I really-"
"No! Get out!" She opened the garage door and pushed me outside.
"Hey, what are you doing?!" I asked, staring at her in disgust.
"Kicking you out! I don't know you! Are you crazy? There is NO chance I'm letting you stay!" She shouted, closing the garage with a control.
I knelt down so I could see her through the closing gap from the garage wall. "But I was-"
"No!" She slams closed the back door and the garage wall completely closes.
