Chapter 5:
A Brand New GreetingAnna
I ran upstairs and shut the door behind me. What was he thinking? He's a complete stranger?
A hot stranger, yes, but still a complete stranger! He broke into my house! How does he think I can let him stay?
I sighed and decided not to think about it. He's gone, it doesn't matter. He's never coming in to my house again.
Jack
I frowned and looked up at the house. Why did she have to be so rude? What a brat. I bet she just doesn't want a homeless guy I her house.I'm not even homeless I just escaped from jail!
Okay, worse title. I'll go with homeless person.
I smirked. She won't get the best of me. She's just a stupid teenage girl. I flew up to the roof and looked down at the chimney.
Guess it's time to play Santa Claus again.
Anna
A small knock came through behind my bedroom door. "Anna, it's time to wake up."
I rubbed my eyes and sat up. "Really? I just went to sleep a few minutes ago."
"Anna, hurry up. You need to get to school."
"Alright, alright. I'm up." I opened my eyes to see Aunt Ingrid coming into my room and leaving my lunch money.
"Anna, you're old enough to wake up on your own. You need to start-"
"Growing up, I know." I got out of bed and went to my closet to pick out some clothes.
"I'm serious Anna-"
"I know. Everyone just tells me I'm immature and kiddy. But I'm not! I'm just... Positive about things." I said, taking out an orange blouse and jeans.
"I meant about doing chores! Wash your own clothes, do the dishes when I tell you to!" Aunt Ingrid wagged a finger at me.
"Oh... Yeah I'll do that too."
"Now hurry up. Your bus will be here soon. I've gotta get to work. Have a nice day," she said, kissing my cheek.
I went over to the sink and brushed my teeth. I let my hair down and brushed it. It was wavy, but okay. I changed into the clothes I picked out and hurried downstairs. Eating my bowl of cereal on my way, I went into the garage to put the lute back in its place before Aunt Ingrid noticed. I reached for the door knob, and it was freezing cold. I walked in, munching on my Cheerios when I nearly dropped my plate.
Jack was there, cuddled up in the corner, sleeping soundly. The bikes were even put up- I bet so that Aunt Ingrid didn't see him when she took her car to work. I walked over furious and kicked Jack in the leg.
He woke up, startled. "What are you doing in here? I thought I kicked you out!"
He rubbed his eyes. "Yeah, it's called breaking in again."
"How did you get in? Usually people take hints that they're not wanted if someone kicks you out of the house!"
Jack shrugged. "I came in through the chimney."
"Through the chimney? Seriously, you expect me to believe that? That's it, I'm calling the cops." I took my phone out of my pocket and dialed 911.
"No! Don't, please!" Jack was suddenly fully awake and snatched my phone from my hands.
"Hey! Give me my phone!" I reached over but he just held it out higher.
"I'll give it back when you promise not to call the cops!"
"Why does it matter? You're a teenage boy! They won't even take you to jail! It's just so you can leave my house and never come back!" I jumped up to grab my phone but ended up pushing Jack too hard and I fell over.
I landed on top of him, and he lay on his back on the ground. Our faces were so close, I could see the small shapes in his eyes that resembled snowflakes. I got up awkwardly, him backing away in a sitting position.
"Sorry," we said at the same time.
I looked down, not wanting to meet his eyes. I stood up, brushed my jeans, and stared at him from above. "I won't call the cops, but you're not staying here. And if you do, I'll call the cops- really this time."
Jack handed me my phone. "Thanks. I have to get to school." I led Jack out of the garage through the living room and grabbed my backpack. I ran outside and sat down on the sidewalk to wait for the bus.
Jack came outside and sat next to me. "You know, you look really bad in that orange shirt."
"Excuse me, but I'm pretty sure an orange shirt matches with the color of my hair! My Aunt always tells me I look great in orange!" I told him.
He laughed. "Yeah? Well, your Aunt lied."
I rolled my eyes and frowned at him. "Haha, very funny. Can't wait to hear your next joke- oh yeah, I'm kicking you out!"
He smirked, and said, "You'd look much better in blue."
I turned to look at him. I don't know what it was about Jack Frost that made him so strange and... Interesting. I still hated him, but he was intriguing.
"You know, you never told me your name." He said, looking at me.
"Why do you need to know?" I asked.
"So that I know what to call you when I sneak again." He answered.
"I'm not joking, I'm calling the cops if you do!"
"Yeah, yeah. Let's just start over new. My name's Jack Frost." He said, holding out his hand.
I paused for a moment, looking down at his hand. Is this guy really safe? Can I trust him? I pressed my lips together and held my hand out. "Anna Summers."
He smiled. "Nice to meet you."
