Summary: There are some things you have to warn Harry about before you take him to meet your family.

Warning(s): I don't think there are any warnings honestly, but if there are any that i missed, send me an ask and let me know!!

A//N: This is literally just a fic version of the song "More Hearts Than Mine" by Ingrid Andress. I've cried to this song more times than I can count and I really just wanted to write a little piece based on the song!! Also, after I wrote this and posted it, I realized how kinda pointless it is, but it's already been posted on tumblr so i might as well post it here lmao :))

"Hey, Harry?" Your voice carries from your room all the way to the living room where Harry's sat on the couch.

"Yeah, baby?" You can hear him stand up, the padding of his feet letting you know that he's coming closer to you.

"Can we talk really quick?" He pauses for a moment, eyes slightly widened.

"Yeah, sure. Um, is this a good talk or a bad talk?" He comes closer, perching on the edge of your bed.

"It's neither, really. It's more of a 'getting you ready for meeting my family' talk, you know?" He nods, and there's a churning in your gut about the conversation that needs to be had.

"Alright, you have the floor, love." You give him a soft smile.

Taking a deep breath, you begin what you've been meaning to tell him for a while now. "Harry, I love you, yeah? More than anything in this world." He nods, wringing his hands together and whispering back an 'I love you'. "Okay, um, yeah. I'm so excited to show you the town I grew up in. It's small, as you know, but there are a lot of memories there. And I know you're most likely going to feel like you've spent a lot longer than a week there by the time that we leave because of all the stories that I've told you along with all the memories that we'll make while we're there." You climb onto the bed next to him, wanting to be closer to him.

"I can't wait to see the place that helped make you who you are." You smile at his commentary, knowing that he's just talking to make you less nervous.

"I think it's a little funny how we'll most likely have to sleep in separate bedrooms even though we're both grown adults, but that's just how my parents are." Both you and Harry let out a light chuckle at the words, both of you already being prepared to not be able to fall asleep next to one another. "And um, I want you to know that I'm not trying to change your mind about going, okay?" You wait for him to nod before continuing. "I just think that there are some things that I should tell you. Just in case something happens to us."

"Nothing's going to happen to us, love." The way his voice waivers on the words makes you want to forget the whole conversation and just wrap him up in your arms, but you know that it's something that needs to be said. Meeting the family is a big step.

"You don't know that, H. I'd love to say that nothing is going to happen, but something always could. I just have to say a few things." You look down at your hands and pick at the nail polish that's begun to chip away. "My mom is going to fall in love with you a thousand times faster than I did. She's going to see you and instantly want you to be around more often. And when you open that mouth of yours, God, she's going to be completely head over heels in love. You'll have her so whipped that she'll love you more than she loves me." He chuckles, but you can tell that he's doing it to hide his emotions. The tears in his eyes give it all away. There are tears in your eyes, too. Nothing necessarily bad has been said, but the conversation is so heavy that it feels like there's something awful going to come from it.

"My dad's going to pretend that he absolutely hates you. I'm not sure why, but that's exactly how he is with everyone. He'll check the tires on your car, he'll drink whiskey with you, and he'll take you fishing, but he won't admit that he likes you. He'll give you a talk about breaking my heart, and he'll be the most intimidating that you'll probably ever see him with anyone. But deep down, he's going to love you, too." He sniffles from beside you, and when you look up at him again, there are tears streaming down his face. You reach out and wipe them away with your thumbs. "Baby, you know that this isn't a conversation that's trying to end things, right?" He nods, leaning into your palms.

"It's just a lot to take in, darling." You nod, pursing your lips.

"Um, my sister's going to hit you with question after question to try to get you to trip up on something. She doesn't really trust people. And, um, she'll probably ask a lot of very personal questions, too. She'll do anything to see you embarrassed, maybe even stumbling over your words a little bit." He laughs a little bit, rolling his eyes. "If we meet any of my friends from school, they'll probably act like they don't know who you are just to humble you a little bit. They'll buy you drinks and tell you stories about me from back in the day. They'll tell you about all the parties that we went to." Your cheeks begin to heat up at the memories flooding your mind of all the crazy nights that you'll never be able to outlive.

"Can't wait to hear every single one of them." He winks at you, making your cheeks burn even more.

"Um, so yeah. If something happens between the two of us, it's going to hurt a lot more after this week. My mom will be so heartbroken that it'll most likely hurt her more than me. My dad will pour me some whiskey and pretend that he never did the same for you. My sister will hold me while I cry. My friends will conspire to beat you up without getting sued." You laugh lighty at the thought. "Everyone that you're going to meet this week will fall apart along with me. So, um, just a warning that after we leave today, the stakes are being raised. Because after this, it won't just be you or me getting hurt, alright?"

"Baby, I'm still going to meet your family. I don't care about the stakes being raised." You raise your brows in question, but before you can voice your confusion, Harry continues. "I plan on putting a ring on your finger one day. I'll ask your mom for permission and your dad for your hand and I'll get down on one knee. And then I'll watch you walk down the aisle, we'll say 'I do" and we'll spend the rest of our lives together. I don't care about meeting everyone that matters to you, because they all matter to me, too. This doesn't scare me, okay? I'm here for it all."

"Then let's go, time to get on the road." He picks up his bag as you grab your.

"Let's go, darling." As the two of you get in the car, all of the fears that you had not even an hour ago feel like they're gone, and that's something only Harry can do.
