"F-Felix?" Isabelle's tone shook with shock and fear, her gaze locked onto Felix, who was on the ground, unconscious on a puddle of blood, surrounded by broken machinery.
Clumsily, she walked towards Felix with heavy breath.
"He was a tough customer." A voice called out from one of the broken drones, the voice of an old man, Viktor von Kruger of the Jackal's fangs.
"What... what did you do...?" Her lower lip quivered with a mix of sorrow and rage.
"He almost fell into my trap, but was still able to destroy all of my weapons."
Isabelle held Felix on her chest, holding him tightly as she was unable to hold back her tears.
She let out an enraged cry that echoed through the room.
A sudden burst of red light enveloped Isabelle, her hand balled into a fist. Through the dark crevices, the small dust and rubble fall through as the room shook.
"I-Isa..." Through ragged breaths, Felix mustered the strength to speak before losing consciousness again.
"You're still—sniff—You'd scold me for wasting that much aura, won't you?" She whispered as she caressed Felix's face and wiped off some of his blood.
"That one was rather strong. He realized it was a trap and was able to dodge at the very last moment, even destroyed some of my drones... I couldn't bring myself to kill him, since I personally don't like killing. Still, with wounds like those, he's likely to bleed out soon enough."
Isabelle shook her head and wiped her tears as she declared, "What a coincidence, I don't like killing either, but... I've decided... I'm going to kill everyone in this building."
Her eyes radiated with vicious red, "Including you."
She picked up Felix, and carried him on her back. As she was about to exit the room, a number of guards found her.
Without any hesitation, they fired their guns. But their bullets became still and steady in the air, enveloped in the faintest, thinnest of Isabelle's aura. Unable to reach her, the bullets they fired let out a sharp ringing as they vibrated, faster and faster, a clear signal for them to run away. But the moment they turned their backs to run, it was too late.
With sharp accuracy, not a single one survived — it was clearly and simply a one-sided slaughter.
Isabelle adjusted Felix on her back, and continued to walk as if nothing happened. Along the way, she sees a familiar face, huddled in the corner of the corridor.
"I-Isabelle?"
"Carol?"
Isabelle's aura flared up.
"W-wait, no! I'm not here to fight!" Carol gestured for her to stop.
"Then why are you here?"
"I'm... here because... I was trying to escape."
"Escape?"
"It's... a long story."
"You said you didn't want to betray us, didn't you? Why did you?"
"They— the Jackal's fangs— they took my brother as hostage... I didn't want to hurt anyone. I just wanted my brother back."
"I see. So then, if you're trying to escape, then that means your brother's been freed?"
"My brother was saved by Agent Azalea, she said she took him to a remote location to keep him safe..."
"Azalea... then there's no reason to worry. By the way, I remember that the armors from Project Hercules all come with small first-aid kits, right?" Isabelle said as she put Felix down.
