Draco's View

Draco loved to prey on the weakness of people just like snakes did. Granger's desire to pursue perfection in magic could be tempered with a few words of her pureblood muggle existence, which forced her to question her qualification.

Weasley's vulnerability lies within his family's modest lifestyle. Hand-me-downs that the Malfoys would never tolerate, even if the house elves wore them. Ron would scowl and give empty threats that boosted Draco's confidence more.

Potter was the most fun to bully. His lineage was mixed, his parents were dead (a shame since they were talented), and now Potter revealed his worst fear; dementors. Draco savored stalking Harry and cornering before he hurled words that no doubt would seep into his soul like venom.

However, his prowess was in vain when in the presence of Phantomhive. Ciel Phantomhive, the new third year that waltzed in as if he owned the school. Nothing Draco said angered him. One day Draco remembered Phantomhive's reaction in Trelawney's school.

"I bet nobody gave the newcomer a teacup or else he'll break it," Draco said to Goyle within Ciel's earshot.

Draco expected him to explode but he only calmly walked over and stopped, staring at the Draco and Goyle. Goyle made an excuse and scurried off. (Curse him! Phantomhive was the prey, you're merely the vessel for the bait, not act like the prey)!

"I will see that your soul breaks, Malfoy," Phantomhive whispered with a smile.

Draco gave Phantomhive a wide berth for a while. His words seemed to have been laced with a spell as Draco's whole being shook for a long time. It wasn't until Draco reflected on two positive things that had been blocked off by the ordeal, did Draco went back to getting into Phantomhive's space.

"Draco, you have responsibilities greater than any other generation of Malfoys before you. Not only must you maintain the dignity of your surname as others have for centuries but you overwhelm Harry Potter. You mustn't make it too obvious to the teachers though. That won't hinder you too much as they are fools who take on superior roles. That would be corrected soon enough once our master regains his strength," Lucius said to his son in the week school would start.

The other thought that had comforted Draco was Hagrid's trial. Hopefully, with the influence of the Malfoy family (and their galleons), they could punish the big oaf severely (Azkaban, preferably) and kill the bloody beast who marred the Malfoy pristine image. And he, Draco will say anything and even lie to see the worthless things be taken care of.

Once Draco had thought those black thoughts, he smiled and his heart alighted a fire of not red but green flames.
